You may choose up to four. wink

I can only think of Marlon, he couldn't sing much, his dancing was shocking, and he couldn't play an instrument. He was merely a slightly older looking version of Michael. Jackie was the man who provided the mature vocals (He's next most useless). Jermaine played Bass, so keep him, Randy handled the percusiion when he joined and took over as the cute kid. Tito was essential at least as he played guitar, and Michael the most talented was an amazing singer and dancer. So I will choose Marlon and let the others stay.

As far as talent goes, the brothers were instrumental in their background vocals behind Mike's. There is nothing quite like sibling harmonies. You cannot duplicate the sound that you get when you get four brothers harmonizing with another brother singing lead!

The five members were also needed to perform the classic dance moves they were taught; although Jackie did look out of place being so tall and the others much shorter than him. Remember, 5 is the magic number for boy bands,

When you think about individual talent, of course it would read like this:

Michael is number one for presence, talent, vocals and watchability

Jermaine is number two for bass playing, background vocals and some watchability.

Tito is number three for his guitar playing and background vocals... plus, who would bring Mike the tissue.

Randy is number four, he plays keyboards, percussion and has a very nice voice (One More Chance on Victory disc - wrote and performed it). He also co-wrote Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground).

Jackie is fifth, he has very nice vocals, high like Michael's. He was pretty good looking, so he had that going for him... and that's about it.

Marlon, comes up last. He had to really work on the dancing to be able to stay with the band, He suffers from Michael-Mania, as witnessed on his song "Body" from Victory. He tried so hard to be Michael, it came off as a joke.

But, why tear them down at all... they were The Jackson 5. Legends in their own time. They had to be there for that to happen, so... ???

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Otis Williams of the Temptations. David, Eddie and Paul (and later Dennis) were all fantastic singers. Melvin had a role as the bass singer. What exactly did Otis do? hmmm

Otis was definitely the group's spokeman.

Stedman & Delory of Five Star.

By today's standards, the Pearson boys are pretty useless as vocalists. And lets not forget that Five Star started out as a 3 girl group as first with only Denise, Doris, & Lorraine.

Wow, didn't know that.

Oh, oh, oh...the male singer from Sugarcubes is another waste of digital space.

Marlon is the only one that could be considered useless. Michael, Jackie and Randy were a songwriting dream team.

MTE. Randy was really essential in the group and MJ for vocals.

-First one that comes to mind is "LeLee" or whatever her name was from SWV (The lightest girl in the group)

I dont even think she really sang, just faked it for the most part while the tape played....I honestly think she was there for decoration. And don't get me wrong SWV is one of my fav girl groups.... Coko did her thing, Taj played her role here and there, but Lelee? This heffer was useless. I think she sang one song on the SWV sophmore album and her vocals were just terrible.

Can y'all name a member (or members) of groups/bands that you though were useless or really weren't needed at all?

Why she gotta be a heffa. Idk...Lelee was the cutest of the three....maybe that was her role.

I agree she was the cutest and always had he best looking face/smile shots for music videos and such. Thats why I said she's there for "decoration". Other than that she is pretty much useless. And this is coming from a huge SWV fan. I have their first two albums, their greatest hits, and a few singles on tape. Third album was terrible thats why I dont have it. I lost it but dont care to buy another copy lol.

Guy/Blackstreet - Teddy Riley: Ok, so he was the music, but vocally his ass was NOT needed! lol

I would say the same thing about DeVante Swing. Talented dude, but somebody should've told his ass to sit the bombaclaut down somewhere, and drag his brother with him too lol K-Ci & JoJo were the group, the other two's place is behind the booth.

I knew someone would bring up DeVante, but nah he was very much needed in the group.... behind the camera he was pretty much Jodeci all by himself. The writing, producing and even a little bit of music video production was all done by him. He basically put the groups image and everything together. DeVante did pretty much everything besides sing lead.

I have to disagree with the selection of Yoko & the Plastic Ono Band.

On John's Plastic Ono Band album, she's credited with "wind" but I don't hear her on the album at all. The Yoko Ono/ Plastic Ono Band album is Yoko's album. Love it or hate it, it's not a John Lennon album.

On albums like Some Time In NYC and Double Fantasy there are Yoko songs and John songs together. And I like some of hers better than some of his. We're All Water is fantastic!

At least she was enough of an artist, and had enough of a vision, to do something that stands out. You know, she opens her mouth and people know who it is in 2 seconds. That's more than most of the GROUPS being mentioned here can say.

While they both get a lot of crap, more than they deserve, you'd have to conclude that Wings albums would not sound much different if Linda was taken off them. The Lennon/ Ono albums would sound very different. Therefore Linda is more "useless" than Yoko. Maybe Yoko made them WORSE, you could argue that, but she didn't just sit there without making a contribution.
