Albums and Songs of the 1970s Poll

[img:$uid]http://www.classic70srock.com/sites/70sRock/_files/image/1970.jpg[/img:$uid]

The 80s poll has proven to be a great success, with 31 song ballots and a whopping 64 album ballots producing wonderful lists. Next up is the 1970s! I know a lot of people here quite love the 70s- funk, glam, punk, post-punk, electronic and new wave were alive and well.

Don't worry if you didn't participate in the previous polls- I'd love to have as wide of a representation as possible. Feel free to submit ranked lists of up to 200 songs and 200 albums, and I'll post the results after the deadline at midnight, July 31st, 2010 org time! Please submit your lists to ian_renner[at]yahoo.com, replacing the [at] with the @ symbol. Make sure you tell me what your Org username is. I'll reply to your message to let you know that I got your list. I'd prefer to receive lists made in Microsoft Excel with a .xls extension with separate columns for artist, album/song and year.

I'd like to change the artist format guidelines:

I'd appreciate artist names to be submitted this way:

David Bowie (not Bowie, David)
Cure, The (not The Cure) (This is different to previous poll formats!)

Each list must contain at least 10 albums or 10 songs.

One other thing- no compilations!

Feel free to use this thread for recommendations. Last time, most people just posted their lists here and didn't send me an Excel spreadsheet. I will accept these lists, but it takes me a lot more time to compile them.

Bring on those lists!

Poll History:

1980s: Poll, Results

1990s: Poll, Results

2000s: Poll, Album Results, Song Results

Oh hell yeah!!! woot! cool

Neither mind #1, it's going to be difficult to figure out the Top 20 songs. Too much talent in the 1970's, especially from disco, rock, & The Funk genres.

All I know is that Prince will NEVER win the #1 spot on the 70's songs poll. With only 2 Prince albums involve + loads of other legendary talents, I wouldn't be surprise if we end up with a possible Stevie Wonder VS. David Bowie VS. Donna Summers VS. The Bee Gees type of showdown.

Don't forget Earth Wind & Fire razz

I'm halfway there, but still need to rank and that's when the sleepless nights take over. Time is ticking y'all!

I just started compiling my song and album lists. I concur with the above statement.

..there were some great Rock, Jazz, Blues and Country releases as well.

I believe this 70's poll will be all over the place..

Chaotic lol

Yeah, this topic could use a timely bump and perhaps an extension of the deadline.

My album list is pretty much settled and I have a good cross-section of songs to shape into a list, but time is always the enemy. I can make the original deadline, but an extension would get no argument from me.

How about an extension to August 15th? I think this thread will expire on August 10th, but we can make a plan. wink

August 15th makes sense to me.

It appears the 70s thread has gone to heaven. I just tried posting to it & received a message indicating no further posts could be made.

...and I was just about to agree with something you said! Perhaps the org gods just can't allow that to happen.

I say give it until the end of August 2010.

There are some 70's music fans that haven't been in the org for a while. And they need to know about this poll.

I'm (always smile) down for an extension.

Is a separate results thread each for albums and songs an option? Just asking.

I think the mods prefer one thread for results, but I can ask again!

I missed the other decades, and i'd love to do this...but i'm not sure i'm that organized...

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I am working on my list now, its hard to rank them, but I am doing them chronologically so songs like Yellow River and Ma belle ami will come before Funkytown

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
