Hell, I'm not sure if Beatles for Sale, Yellow Submarine or even half of Magical Mystery Tour are essential. And Let It Be is not thaaaat great to begin with...the problem is that each of those albums have 5 or 6 killer songs, and many of them don't appear in any compilation hmmm

Nope, they are all must-haves, dammit. How can you possibly have a full understanding of The Beatles missing "Blue Jay Way," and "All Together Now" cool

I'd say Beatles for Sale has enough gems to make it essential - and it's place as a stylistic bridge is also important to understand the Beatles story. Magical Mystery Tour's first side is a weary, half-baked lesser echo of Sgt. Pepper for sure, and yet... it still has that Walrus tune. smile

As for Yellow Submarine... i don't really count that as a proper Beatles album, but I will agree it's non-essential - - apart from Hey Bulldog. That's a killer track.

This is actually a good tip. Beatles hits often were only released on singles and were not featured on the regular albums. Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Get Back; just a few songs not on regular albums, but compiled on the second best of compilation of the 1967-1970 period; also known as the Blue Album.

Even the "The Beatles 1" compilation (that looks like the red + the blue albums together) is ok for a start.

(IMHO Revolver and Sgt Pepper's are their best albums music
