I loved their show. There was still one episode I never got to see, and I couldn't even find a torrent for it. The one where they go to boot camp retreat and do all these trust exercises.

highfive Her album was fiyah. My favorite song is 'Here I Am'. I love me some Monica. Her debut album remains in the top 20 of my favorite albums of all time....still soo good after all these years. mushy

You know I didn't even have her debut back then, although "Personal" was the jam.

I went back and copped the debut and I was stunned! eek Great stuff from Dallas Austin too!

My all-time faves are:
"The First Night"
"All Eyes On Me"
"So Gone"

nod My favorites from her debut were: 'Skate', 'With You', 'Why I Love You So Much', 'Now I'm Gone', and 'Before You Walk Out Of My Life', but that album is phenomenal from beginning to end and she was only 13 or 14 when she recorded I think. This song is still my ultimate favorite from her:

mushy The woman is underrated. I was always Team Monica back when she and Brandy were 'rivals'. lol

lol It's just amazing to me how bad their relationship got over the years. It's really sad, but Salt found Jesus so I can't be mad at her for that. I respect that she won't do any of the old songs because she doesn't believe in that anymore due to her faith. You can't walk in God and the world is what I was always told and she's not being a 'fence sitter' so I respect her choice even though Salt N Pepa was the shit!!!

Donna Summer just did a big 'comeback' album 2 years ago. 'Crayons' was actually very good and well received coming from an artist who was one of the queens of disco. nod

Wikipedia:

'Crayons'

In 2008 Summer released the album, Crayons, on Sony BMG imprint Burgundy Records. Remixes of the track "I'm A Fire" reached #1[5] on the U.S. Dance Chart, as did the first official single, "Stamp Your Feet", which was released in April, 2008. The tracks became Summer's 19th and 20th number-one Billboard singles of her career and her 28th and 29th Top Ten Billboard singles.[6] In January 2009, "Fame(The Game)" reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart making this her 21st number-one Billboard Dance Single and 30th Top Ten Billboard Dance Single.

The album Crayons debuted at #17, making this her all-time highest debut on the US Album Chart and her highest charting album since She Works Hard for the Money had reached number 9 twenty-five years earlier. The Adult Contemporary single "Sand On My Feet" would eventually reach number 30 on that chart in the Fall of 2008.

When I think comeback I usually think along the lines of the Eagles who, up until 2009, hadn't done any new material in 28 years. Many of the artists being mentioned just aren't topping Billboard charts or they aren't on major labels with big money backing. Most of these artists are still producing new material and/or performing at small venues. With the state of the music industry now, I don't think real talented artists should be wasting their time because most music buyers are people under 30 who don't even know who most of these greats are.

The younger music buyers are too busy being suffocated by artists like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Rihanna to know anything about the fabulous Donna Summer unfortunately...and she still does it better than all three of these women put together IMHO. If music channels and popular radio stations aren't willing to play an older artist's singles, than the odds of that artist getting 'commercial success' again really isn't going to happen, but Sade's new album isn't played a lot on big popular stations and she's managed to sell over a million copies because she has a good fanbase and at the end of the day a good fan base is really all that should matter. nod

Per the thread question, I don't consider "Crayons" a HUGE comeback, but a comeback nonetheless. I agee that the fanbase is what's most important because we are the ones who will pay to go see artists when they tour. Nowadays, that's probably the bulk of the money. However, for me, a HUGE comeback for Donna would have been to have chart success with each single that was released. Not just on the dance chart though. That is to be expected from Donna, I'd say. "Stamp Your Feet" is great pop song. It should have charted on the pop charts. "I'm A Fire" should have been on the pop charts as well. "Sand On My Feet", I believe, did make it on the Urban Contemporary chart, but I cannot say at what position. And "Fame (The Game)" is an awesome track. It really should have been charting on pop and rock charts. So, for me, a HUGE Donna comeback would have been success on other charts besides the dance chart. As a whole, however, "Crayons" the album was a comeback as an album, but not a HUGE comeback...to me. It's her highest debut album since 1983, but once it debuted it went down the charts instead of a continued climb upward.

I agree with you. It did deserve to be on more than just the dance charts. It was a very well done album and Donna can still sing her butt off after all these years. 'Sand on My Feet' is my favorite song...soo pretty. mushy

I think Shanice has an album coming out soon, but I understand what your saying. nod She should be getting waay more recognition. She took a big hiatus to be a mommy and in the fickle music business you can't be out for too long unfortunately. I've been waiting for her comeback since her last album dropped in 2006 and it sold over 200,000 copies according to Wikipedia. She has her own label called 'Imajah' named after her two children. mushy

I find it interesting that she considers herself as "saved", but she served as one of the producers on "Let's Talk About Pep". I don't know to what extent she served, but I don't know if I would want my name associated with a show like that if I was calling myself "saved".

Shanice went independent with her last project. She did pretty well with it (from what I read and heard). I downloaded the album from Rhapsody and thought it was pretty good....just a tad too slow.
