Sad is the day when a Taiwanese Boy can "do" Whitney... better than Whitney!

This might be her best strategy going forward,if she even decides to tour again. She'll have to concentrate on the songs that she can still sing, and leave out the big, showy numbers like "I Will Always Love You".Embrace her 'new' voice.

nod

I also blame whoever is producing/arranging the songs for her tour.

I have gone to see Prince and heard him sing Little Red Corvette. The song was arranged so differently that it took awhile before I recognized this WELL recognized song. It was great to hear it so differently. Made me appreciate Prince's talent so much more.

If Whitney could sing her songs in such a while... slow it down if it was a dance song or jazz up I will always love you the way Jill Scott alters her hits would work for Whitney embracing her new voice.

That's a good point. Singers who had wonderful voices when they were younger--pros who knew about music and the limits of their "instruments"--altered the arrangements and scale of their songs to reflect a lower range and pitch. Frank Sinatra, Lena Horn, and even, more recently, Barbra Streisand, come to mind... If Whitney had the wisdom of these singers, and her advisers, then her tour would have been more successful. A song--that I liked--which was already on a lower scale like "Million Dollar Bill" would have worked for her. Not straining to hit the heights with her old hits! At least sing it Alto, if you can't sing Soprano anymore! shake batting eyes

Whitney struggles to hit high note

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

Whitney Houston struggled to hit the high notes in the second of her London gigs.

The diva, who once topped the charts with her impressive vocals, had to pause as she attempted to reach the top notes during her classic ballad I Will Always Love You, before turning to her keyboardist and asking him to lower it an octave at the concert at the O2 Arena.

But the 46-year-old - who is recovering from a respiratory infection which forced her to cancel the first three UK dates - managed it and received applause from the crowds, who supported her throughout her performance, as she held the note.

"I love you all, thank you London," she gushed in return.

Whitney's second London show, part of her Nothing But Love world comeback tour, turned out to be a family affair. Mum Cissy was watching her daughter from the audience and brother Gary sang during her first costume change, but it was 17-year-old daughter Bobbi who got rapturous cheers when she took the mic for My Love Is Your Love.

Whitney, who has battled troubles with substance abuse, admitted her vocal problems at her previous London show, where she told the audience: "She doesn't want to come, my soprano friend. Sometimes the old girl sings, but not tonight."

It is her first tour in the UK since 1999.

Sounds like the drama has become part of the show now, at least she's pre-warned people how awful it's probably going to be, but to expect something mildly 'heroic'. smile

THIS JUST KIND OF WRITES ITSELF lol lol

falloff
Where do I go?
When there's nobody else to turn to
Who do I talk to?
When nobody wants to listen
Who do I lean on? Oh
When there is no foundation stable
I go to the rock
I know he is able, I go to the rock

[Chorus:]
I go to the rock of my salvation
I go to the stone that the builders rejected
I run to the mountain
And the mountain he stands by me
When the Earth all around me is sinking sand
On Christ the solid rock I stand
When I need a shelter I go to the rock

Where do I go, where do I go
When the storms of life are threatening
Who do I turn to when those winds of sorrow blow
And is there a refuge in the time of tribulation
Go to the rock, I know he is able
I go to the rock

[Repeat Chorus (2X)]

I go the rock when I need a friend
I can go to the rock
I go to the rock when I need a shelter
You can go to the rock
You can go to the rock
You can go to the rock
I can go
I go to the rock
I can go to the rock
I can go to the rock
I can go, I can go to the rock
I can go when I need some shelter
When I need a friend
I can go

And when the Earth around me is sinking sand
On Christ the solid rock I stand I can stand
When I need a friend
I go to the rock
I can go to the rock
Hey hey hey oh yeah

Poor Whitney. I bet she's making a lot of people that she probably burned along the way with her enormous ego very happy these days. I guess that pipe was telling her that she could smoke all the shit she wanted and still woo the masses with her God-given talent that she assumed would never expire. I used to absolutely hate Whitney Houston, but now my heart goes out to her.

Artists these days NEED to go on tour to make any money at all, but Whitney needs to hang it up and focus what energy she has left on just recording. I loved "Salute" from her latest album. Because it looks like her days of performing on a stage are numbered.

Hope these recent failings don't cause her to relapse (...if she hasn't already).

I really liked "Million Dollar Bill"... boxed

Hey you ain't alone. I liked it too. I really liked "I Look To You", and "I Didn't Know My Own Strength". Inspiring.

I was so sad when I heard that her voice couldn't hold in London. Broke my heart it did. I've been a Whitney fan for ages, and I understand that growing older, plus the lifestyle that she indulged in during the last few years, can take a strain on her voice. If she puts in more hard work, I think she can regain a good portion of her voice back, perhaps sing 1st alto, or perhaps mezzo soprano (maybe pushing it). I still have faith in Whitney, and i commend her for coming back after all the trouble that happened before. biggrin God speed, Ms. Houston. I wish her the best.

sad I heard her butcher "I Will Always Love You" and a tear fell. The voice that made me fall in love with female vocalists is officially gone forever. R.I.P. wilted
