I can't count how many times in the past month I've mentally reminded myself to put this song in my top 5. When the rubber hit the road, I left it off entirely. sad

Nope, not you!

The last list is in, though, and the results will be forthcoming! I just want to double check everything to make sure there are no mistakes (or not many- this is a HUGE list)!

I think the work you're doing with these polls is great! But would it not be wise to put a cap on the length of these lists? Maybe top 50?

Some are possibly not listing their favourite albums of the 80's, but rather ALL the albums they either own or have in some capacity.

Surely a regulated amount would give a less distorted result that some submitting 30-50 and others submitting 200!

This absolutely not intended to be critical in tone. You are to be congratulated for your efforts and enthusiasm! Well done.

How would you know?..

I not only own all the Albums, and songs I listed, but they are my favorites by each artist. My lists could expand well beyond 200. I still left off too many of my favorites, for 200 albums and songs.

Completely true; for this 80s list, I could have add more than 300 albums...

I don't. It was a guess. Thus the use of the word 'possibly'.

Again, this is not an attempt to denigrate the poll in it's entirety, rather simply pointing out that having such varied numbers in submissions, skews the results.

I definitely had to work to narrow mine down to 200. They are all definite favorites. That's only 20 albums per year... not really that many to be honest.

On the issue of length of submissions, that's a subject into which I put a lot of thought. lol I know that this forum has a lot of people who have very extensive collections and lists, and I wanted to encourage that. At the same time, I can understand an argument for a shorter limit. That said, my formula doesn't really discriminate against shorter lists- an album ranked 20 on a list with 20 albums gets the same number of points for that list as an album ranked 20 would on a list of 200 albums.

This may be a good time to bring this up:

After the 70s poll, I've thought about combining the 60s with everything earlier, as albums weren't really a common format before 1965 and I don't think there are too many people who would be interested in a separate 50s poll (and 40s/30s, etc.).

So, make your voices heard! Would you want to lump in everything pre-60s with the 60s, or have separate polls for earlier decades?

I hope to cap it all off with an all-time poll, and I'm not sure what the limit for submissions should be for that. Should we stick with 200, or expand to 300? 400? 500?

i agree w/ the idea of using 60+ pre-60's.

as for the "all time" poll... i personally think beyond 200 it starts to get a little unmanageable.

hmmm Yeah, I think a 40's list wouldn't have many chances of success.

I vote for a pre-1970 poll nod

Ummmm...NOOOOO mad

The 60s man, the 60s MAAAAAN!

The 60s decade must have its own poll !!! hmph!; hell, only with the Beatles, Stones, BeachBoys, The Who, Zappa, Cream, Woodstock bands or James Brown my list would already have +70 albums, and there so maaaaany other important albums from that decade...for me the 60s were the first modern decade of music, and were as important and worthy as the 70s or 80s. Killing the 60s poll would be as nasty as slowly killing a baby with a rusty knife...s You can't kill the era of the british invasion, motown, mainstream folk, girl-powa, early power-pop, surf/rock & the flower power!!! please don't!! ARE YOU CRRAAZZYYYY!????

That said, I think that a single 50s poll + the previous decades is necessary... a 30s or even a 40s poll would surely flop... Anyway, a single 50s poll would be nice eh? (rock&roll, blues, country/rock, doo-wop, pop) cool

BUT YOU CAN'T KILL THE 60s!!!!! mad

Oh, and I truly don't care about the limit of albums allowed; 200 for the 70s and 60s are enough for me; I would have prefered +200 for the 80s but it's clearly too late now lol

I don't want to kill the 60s poll. lol Just perhaps combine it with the earlier decades, because I doubt there would be much interest for even a 50s poll.

That said, we could have a 60s poll only and let pre-60s music have its place in the all-time poll.

I know what you mean, but, really, the magic of the 60s would be diluted if we mix that unique decade with the archaich 50s and 40s; the 50s and 40s sounded similar, but the 60s were a completely different animal...and of course mixing a 60s album with a 30s one would be crazy/pointless...

I believe that a somewhat quick/short 60s poll + a very short/quick pre-60s poll would be the wisest move. I'm sure that there are a lot of +40 years old folks here that would appreciate a 60s poll. These two final polls should be faster than the 90s/80s/70s ones (I'm talking about a short deadline, not very long lists, etc.)...

As for the all time poll, in my case, I'd like to mix the 25 best albums of each decade, that means: 25(00s)+25+25+25+25(60s)+25(pre-60s)=150; perhaps we could add 50 more albums, 200 as a whole. That would be nice, the 200 best albums of all time...

I'd highly recommend and vote for the 60's to have it's own poll. It was a major decade in music that can't be lumped in with the 30's-50's. It was the British invasion, Motown, Psychedelic, folk, political music, girl groups etc. It's too vast to ignore. Just combine everything that is pre-60's.
