OFF-TOPIC: Because THIS is prince.org, AND that's how orgers roll! Some threads get hi-jacked within a matter of two pages or less. lol

BACK ON TOPIC: Does anyone know of any incidents where Beyonce OR Madonna name-checked each other? I'm trying to research this info myself. I don't even know if they're fans of each other's music or not.

I've always liked most of Madonna's music (the 1980's, anyone?!?). It's her persona that always disappointed me at times.

Should be mad at MJ? lol Hello, The man is dead, stop trying to downplay his legacy and get a hobby.

The horrible thing you said was

We all love MJ, but he was a total idiot. He was only mad because Madonna was everything he was not. Smart. White. In control. A true DIVA. MJ could NEVA.

calling a dead man a total idiot was not only disrespectful but disgusting as hell...Have some fucking respect.

The reaction to MJ's death speak volumes about his influence, Madonna will never be able to achieve that even with her outrageous shallow re-inventions shrug

Stop comparing the trashy Madonna to the legendary, child prodigy and raw talent that is MJ...compare her to britney spears, leave MJ out.

Some of you Madonna fans are one of the most bitter, miserable fans I ever came across.

Madonna is NOTHING comparing to him

I love how u chose to ignore ALL my points, becuz EVERYTHIN i said was factual. lol

And exactly WHY should i respect MJ? Because he sold a lot of records? Because he could write great songs? I'm tryna understand dis. I dont see anyone demanding respect for Angelina Jolie or Bono, and they just as deep in the charity work as MJ was. Respecting someone also has to do with having some honsety about em. How many times can ppl fool u before we're allowed to call u a fool? Wuts the limit? Ppl trying the same thing over and over and he fell for it over and over, wut the fuck does dat make him? A foolish genius is wut. And yes, they definitely exist.

I wont even get into the Madonna thing, because I already commented on everythin u said:

Oh, yeah. Michael is a more revered and beloved artist than Madonna. His work is more classic. He is a bigger icon. He is more famous. He sold more. His work is more copied. He's more inspirational. He's the bigger pop culture force. He's the more respected musician. I know all this. Who r u arguing with?

Who r u arguin with about this? i said Madonna made better choices and is smarter than Michael. Before he died, they had sold the same amount of records. Why shouldn't they be compared? Madonna's path shows u wut u should do to stay on top, Michael's path shows wut to do to ruin ur career. Dats really wut it comes down to.

Thank You. It's crazy to me that even in death, people still refuse to give the man credit for anything.

Who is refusing to give him credit? I give credit where credit is due. MJ doesn't deserve any credit for his lack of common sense. biggrin

Thats what I'd say as well. A good part of whats given Madonna her iconic status is that she took risks noone else could or would take and continues to live that way. Beyonce's career has been much more scripted by the industry and likely will continue to be that way, so its like comparing apples and oranges.

And there u go. Beyonce's 3 albums r sonically and stylistically identical.

Madonna's 1st 3 albums show evolution. Not only musically, but image wise.

Can Beyonce even write a song without the help of 16 other writers? She talks about how she "wrote this song for all the independent women" and how she "wrote this song so women can embrace their voluptuous bodies", but i have YET to look inside an album booklet and see Beyonce as the ONLY WRITER on a track. Madonna has written dozens of songs by herself.

Exactly. nod

And Beyonce has been called out and sued by several songwriters saying she had no hand in writing the material. Ne-Yo most notably said he wrote all the lyrics to Irreplacable and that the song was already ready before they chose Beyonce to sing it.

Yet Beyonce was sayin "i wrote dis fo all ma LADIESSSS." Such a dumb bitch. disbelief

Smart marketing?

"Quick, he died, quick, get in there, quick record a single before everyone moves on, stop crying Paris I've got a single to perform!!"

You said he's only recognisable by Thriller, not true. Billie Jean is his biggest hit, Black or White is his 2nd biggest hit.

Does it really matter if Janet is successful on Billboard when not only has Mike sold more than 700 million worldwide but Janet has never had the media go after her the way they did him until the Superbowl?

You sound so fucking stupid confused

MJ's most recognizable song is Thriller NOT Billie Jean.

700 million? falloff

Is having the media going after you a good thing? neutral

Floons sigh

Missing my point again.

I never said having the media after you was a good thing, I said that's part of the reason he didn't have as many hits in the USA. Same with Janet, she only REALLY began to bomb hard after the Superbowl when the media took her down.

Thriller, Billie Jean, Scream, Black or White, DSTYGE, Beat It and Smooth Criminal would ALL be his most recognisable equally. PARTICULARLY Billie Jean (moonwalk, glove, jacket, video, racial barriers, MTV etc), Thriller and Beat It.

From wiki about MJ's sales:

"and estimated global sales of over 780 million records"

Probably more now if 2009 sales haven't been added yet.

Janet: "...having sold over 100 million records worldwide."

Janet is the 11th best selling artist in the USA. FYI, Britney is at #8.

The most Beyonce did for Irreplaceable was a few melody riffs, which Ne-Yo stated. I've heard many demos for Beyonce and the demo's are the exact same as the versions Beyonce records, yet she gets writers credit. I know it's a business, but still

Well, she don't need to be. She has her own lane, and is making her own legacy whether people like it or not. And I have seen on this site, most don't like it. I don't understand why, but it's cool.

That's not true according to Tor Erik Hermansen from Stargate: But once Beyoncé heard it, she loved it and was sure she could make it her own. "What happens sometimes, is you think about a specific artist and you put them in this box, the song has to be this way or that, and then you're usually confining yourself to the thing they did three years ago," Hermansen said. "But she heard it and did her own vocal arrangements, asked for a few changes to be made and some new drums, and she sang it much higher than the demo."

And not to mention, and this is coming from a FAN, Bey's harmonic arrangements are oustanding. That's her lane. And every producer, and people who have worked with her say these things. Even people like Sasha Frere Jones who review her work in the New Yorker said that she does remarkable things with tone and harmonies so from that aspect, she deserves whatever credit she gets.
