I don't agree with the writers block moments because she has had alot of free jam type songs since she first came out, just like Maxwell.

She suffered from writers block. She said so herself, and it shows in her last three albums.

I feel she has at least branced out more than her peers in the genere. I do enjoy Pt. 1 of this set more so than the new album because of all the hidden themes elements and layers on top of layers to dissect.

Branched out more does not make something good. prince branched out into hip hop, how was that? Pt1 is somewhat better, I do agree. The album would have served better as a double album release.

She LIKE ME has said in the album she lives inside of her mind and that's where alot of her anxiety comes from..that hit the nail on the head and I GET her...you may not be someone like that however those are the types of people that have too much to say and don't express it often or enough; so when I hear these albums and people calling her self indulgant or "fake-real" I understand where THEY are coming from however because I just about have the same ideals in personality I understand hers too.

Sure like alot of neo-soul artist they have alot they want to express, but the lack the musical skill sets to do so. See badu the last three albums, Dangelo 1000 deaths, Maxwell's latest album. O

This indeed is not her best in my opinion..Im still going with Pt. 1 as my favortie album; however I dont believe this one should be overlooked..its just not easily accessible...and was Erykah ever easily accessible? Really?

It has nothing to do with being accessible.

People have forgotten how to compose songs, make grooves, make melodies and tell stories.

But we get instead phony political bravado such as badu's who just read a book on groupthink last week
. LOL

Spot on.

Instead songs are dressed up with distractions, and all of a sudden they are out the box. What's out the box is composing a song with a melody and a groove.

I think the label missed a major opportunity by not including the music video on a deluxe edition of the CD. That probably would have sent the sales through the roof.

She got naked, without a permit, in front of a nationally treasured historical site *and* simulated assassination similar to the way one of the most beloved american presidents was. you didn't expect this result?

No shrug

But if she did expect(and I think she did), she def hit the jackpot. One thing for damn sure, this whole brouhaha just proves to me(again) of how the American public is such an easily offended bunch.

Nudity only really seems to be an issue when it's a woman over the age of thirty and it's on her own terms. Janet and the Superbowl thing comes to mind...hmmm...just saying...both women have something in common...

Anyway, I think the media can stir up drama in any country, just look at the ridiculous case of Jonathan Ross and the BBC last year; Brits complaining they were offended over a segment they most likely didn't even hear! lol

only one thing comes to mind .....
and I think I have to quote her on this

"I am an artist and I am sensitive about my shit" confused
I watched the video in both formats... and I watched her debut of the song on whomever that was she was playing on....Not sure what she was thinking with the tights and the bodysuit and was that a jacket confused I think she is a fantastic singer I have seen her play twice. would go see her again in a second. She puts on a great performance. I just hope her sensitivity is not crushed by the comments being made. Perhaps...

I don't get it either! There were no complaints about it until AFTER the video came out. If the people that were there were so shocked and offended, they should have been shocked and offended on the day it happened and making complaints.

And why the hell is there not one cellphone picture? Even if not one single person out there knew who the hell she was, there should have been at least ONE photo that surfaced with the caption, "Crazy Phat Azz Sista Gets Buckie Nekkid on the streetz in the "D"! falloff

She sounds phony, contrived and forced. She sounds as dumb as she looks in the video with a ton of half baked ideas and themes. The album is not that good at what it is trying to do as an album. Windowseat is a hot song, but her music is being overshadowed by her attention whoring.

No one cared about Badu until she made a dumb selfish video and disgraced herself, her music, her community, other "progressive artist" and tried to hide behind some shit she pulled off the internet three weeks ago about groupthink.

As far as the video, what do you expect from a person that got two baby daddies, and trys to hide that behind some neo soul bullshit.

Art is subjective, if what she does fails to resonate with you then move on, each to their own, etc hope you find it elsewhere. But there's a big difference between criticising the art and criticising the artist; the latter is just unnecessary.

I know, right? Not to mention I think we got the message the first dozen times...she/he no likey, lol

Yeah, that struck me, too. It was like they were advertising for someone to come forward and complain! lol Seems like, eventually, some parent reluctantly stepped forward to explain that their boy-children had indeed been wide-eyed, wondering what on earth that almighty hump just below her back was! (But with a hint of intrigue that suggested that they could well develop a liking for such a thing in later life....) batting eyes

Erykah Badu's naked stroll through downtown Dallas, Texas, for a music video has earned her a disorderly conduct citation.

The singer shed her clothes as she walked through Dealey Plaza until she was nude and then fell near where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Badu said the video was "shot guerrilla style," without a crew and in one take March 17.

A Dallas Police spokeswoman said earlier in the week that they wanted to press charges against Badu because children were present, but no one had called police or filed a complaint that day.

Police now have their witness.

"One witness did come forward yesterday, thus leading to the charges filed today," a statement from Dallas Police said Friday.

A citation of misdemeanor disorderly conduct has been mailed to Badu, who is a Dallas resident, police said.

"After much discussion, it has been determined that this charge best fits her conduct when she disrobed in a public place without disregard [sic] to other individuals and children who were in close proximity," the police statement said. If convicted, Badu could be fined $500, police said.

"It will be up to her as to how she wants to proceed further with this case," police said. "She can contest it in a court of law or simply pay the fine."

Badu and her representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

She did post a series of short messages on the social networking site Twitter last weekend, soon after the "Window Seat" video was released on her Web site.

She tweeted that "there were children there. i prayed they wouldnt b traumatized."

I was expecting more concise song structures at first, but remembered how 4th World War played like a dream (or a stunning nightmare); filled with asides, abrupt stop-starts and meaningful meandering. This part functions in the same mode, but on a more personal and romantic level.

Love how bottom-heavy the whole record is (the start of "20 Feet Tall" fallinluv). "Out My Mind Just in Time" is beautiful.. Georgia Anne really did her thing, but she always does. "Agitation" is such a great song fragment. I dig the revolving feel of "Love" - nevermetanotherloverquitelikeyou - and that locked groove.

The second album of '10 to make a personal mark. smile

Another overrated new-soul artist. Another one to get naked to sell some cds.

If that's your summary of the collective work of Miss Badu, I'd say that you don't really listen to her music.
