the album lacks songs, a basic concept in albums
sorry guys

for all that talk about "concept" you seem to keep missing hers

Sometimes people confuse creativity with greatness. Some artist hide behind poorly written songs by calling things a "concept." She sounds like she is still stuck in a writing block, like she has been the last three years, just like all the other crappy neo soul phony artist. Like her boy Dangelo, jus like Maxwell. If she was not on a major she would be N'Dambi, and this cd would be sold on Stones Throw.

The album has it's moments, like 2 and a half. Window seat, Out My Mind and the album artwork. Badu is another neo soul artist trying to be something she is not, a prolific artist. These last two albums are like Prince doing hip hop. Windowseat, and Out My Mind are great Badu songs, the other shit sounds like a hot mess.

Too bad she ruined Window seat with a poor choice of a video.

Lucky you! I wish I could see her in Miami next week. But I'm saving my coins for a tour and/or Lilith Fair. Nothing like seeing her live.

I can't believe people still buy CD's.... I guess it's a good thing. I download all of my new music from Amazon.com/downloads.

As long as you're buying it. If you buy Cds on the first week, you often get it for the same price (actually, since Amazon sometimes offers crazy discounts on new releases, I might be wrong). I still like CDs but I will have to preview some tracks before jumping into the album.

BTW, I haven't read all the posts here, but I assume people talked about the video. The right wing is totally showing their musical cluelessness by trying to tear down Badu....I doubt she gives a fuck, though! Look at the comments by these people....absolute philistines. Shameful!

falloff I don't blame you. Especially since it's in Miami. I actually considered it until I realized it was only days away and I literally just came back from taking time off. I swore if she came to my area again I wouldn't miss her that is of course, if it's not one of those impromptu or secret location performances.

I like Stones Throw. sad

Funny you mention that label because almost all of the producers are associated with it: Madlib, Karriem Riggins, J Dilla

She's so L.A. wit it right now.

I hear what you are saying but you're trying to keep her in a box.

I don't agree with the writers block moments because she has had alot of free jam type songs since she first came out, just like Maxwell.

I feel she has at least branced out more than her peers in the genere. I do enjoy Pt. 1 of this set more so than the new album because of all the hidden themes elements and layers on top of layers to dissect.

She LIKE ME has said in the album she lives inside of her mind and that's where alot of her anxiety comes from..that hit the nail on the head and I GET her...you may not be someone like that however those are the types of people that have too much to say and don't express it often or enough; so when I hear these albums and people calling her self indulgant or "fake-real" I understand where THEY are coming from however because I just about have the same ideals in personality I understand hers too.

This indeed is not her best in my opinion..Im still going with Pt. 1 as my favortie album; however I dont believe this one should be overlooked..its just not easily accessible...and was Erykah ever easily accessible? Really?

Here's an article that just popped up about her nudie video:

[Erykah] tweeted that "there were children there. i prayed they wouldnt b traumatized."

On the contrary, quick-witted parents could've found themselves presented with an almost ideal opportunity to teach their young charges what a 'donk' was. batting eyes

(If nothing else, it would mean that, unlike myself, the young'ins would never suffer the indignity of having to look it up.) doh!

I really need Up in the Air. I can never get that song out of my head even with the album release. Plus the album version sounds so much better than the leaks I want to hear it the way it should be heard.

Identity

When she confesses, "I'm a recovering undercover over-lover" on the Out My Mind, Just In Time (Movement 1) , it gives one a sense of urgency to walk onto rain soaked streets beneath the gray skies. It's an instant classic and one of many great tracks I heard thus far.

This CD, thanksfully, is a vast improvement upon New Amerykah Part I.

Anyone found an interview that may bring light to the two major Biggie references (Get Munny) and "slow singing and flower bringing if my burglar alarm starts ringing"?

Erykah Badu Defends Her Controversial Music Video
By Blane Bachelor

Thursday April 01, 2010 02:05 PM EDT
Erykah Badu

Paul Abell/PictureGroup
Erykah Badu says her buzzed-about new music video, in which she strips off her clothes and references the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has been "grossly misinterpreted by many."

The singer and native of Dallas, who is raising her three children there, Tweeted: "I would never disrespect JFK. his revolutionary thinking is my inspiration. my performance art has been grossly misinterpreted by many."

The video for her song "Window Seat," which was filmed on March 17 and has been pulled from several sites, shows Badu stripping as she walks along a sidewalk in Dallas's Dealey Plaza, now a popular tourist attraction. After Badu removes all of her clothing, she feigns being shot in the head, falling to the ground near where Kennedy was fatally wounded on Nov. 22, 1963.

This is what I think: If Baduizm and Worldwide Underground had a baby, then New Amerykah Part II would be the result. This has been my tenth time listening to it ever since I brought it Tuesday and it's one of those feel good joints that has that classic Badu sound to it. It's nearly completely stripped away from the brilliant paranoia and political tones that fueled Part One and she gives us a song cycle about the developments of love. I don't think it is as flat-out jaw-dropping as its first part, as I think that particular album just had layers and a certain deepness to it that made it one of her best albums in my estimation, but this one is solid. If Worldwide Underground never existed, I could see her following Mama's Gun up with this one. I gotta listen to Part II a little bit more in order to fully understand some of the songs, but it is a good album. Lowdown Loretta Brown hasn't let me down yet! music biggrin

On the back of your CD case, is there a green spot on the furthest moon? I'm trying to figure out if this intentional or just a blemish on my copy.
