While I'm ecstatic that Sade is back, I have to be honest and say that she should have added at least two or three more songs, with four songs more than four minutes long. Otherwise it is good. I'm sure it will grow on me more over time. It could have had a little pow to it. I would rate Lover's Rock as the 2nd fave with Stronger Than Pride as my #1 Sade release. She could make it up if she and Maxwell get together and tour this fall/winter.

Fave tracks so far:
The Moon and the Sky
Skin
Soldier of Love
Morning Bird

Looking forward to more tv appearances.

I love Primise, Diamond Life and Love Deluxe album. I am not sure which one I like the most. They´re all great.
As for Soldier of Love, haven´t heard that yet cause they still don´t have it in the shop over here. confused

Thank you! I tweeted the same thing. She hasn't put out new material in a decade and she comes back with only ten tracks? Did it take her one year to finish each song or something?

"Love Deluxe" is my favorite because the sound, lyrics and melodies were so strong. The title lives up to the music: rich, sweeping, luxurious, grand. There's a fullness to the production and it just feels more "alive" than any of her other CDs to me.

Just given it my first listen and it's nice to hear that familiar texture and warmth in her voice again. The album is as classic a Sade album as you are likely to get, with a mix of songs that groove and simmer.

A criticism is that maybe there are too many slow ballads on here, but the band sure know how to fashion together a cohesive album.

Nice to also hear the shout out to MJ in Skin.

If you ain't got your copy yet, get it cause 8 pages of orgers can't be wrong.

I'm underwhelmed by the album. 4 tracks are good but for a 10 year layoff I expected something along the lines of the Love Deluxe album. I guess it has to grow on me. I hated Lovers Rock and was hoping that this would be so much better. Maybe Sade took too much time off. Still my girl though.

Yeah this is my impression of it as well. I like about 3-4 songs out of the 10 tracks. I thought it was just a matter of me giving the album a chance so I took a few more listens to it today. I still can't say that I absolutely love the album, in fact, I ended up pulling out "Promise" to compensate.

I'm not out to say that I was expecting the album to be like those of the past, but I did expect the album to have the same sparkle of magic of the band, having that loving, sensual sexy sound (what happened to the sax? confuse) with new flavors of music....but seems all I hear is a lot of slow whining. And I hate to do this, I really do because I love Sade's work but i'm sorry, at this time, the album isn't doing it for me.

I've only ever heard two songs by Sade ("Smooth Operator" and "The Sweetest Taboo"). boxed I love her voice and I hum along whenever I hear these songs, but I don't know if I could stomach a whole album of mellow, somber tracks--either her classic albums or the new one.

I'll have to check out some of the YouTube clips in this thread. hmmm

Her speaking voice is definitely deeper than it used to be, but that happens sometimes as women grow older. shrug I think she smokes cigarettes too, so that could have made her tone lower as well.

This album is slightly disappointing. sad

I mean, it's not like it's horrible by any stretch of the word (come on, it's Sade LOL), but I guess when you take so many years in between albums, one expects to be WOWED every time.
I have to pay more attention to it over the next few days, but I played it about 3 times in a row, while doing some stuff around the house, and I just felt like I was listening ... to stuff I'd already heard from her. There was nothing really exciting. sad

That said, I didn't care for Lover's Rock at first and it went on to become one of my favorite albums by anyone ever. But I don't think that's gonna be the case this time.

"Soldier of Love" lacks the romanticism in Sade's previous albums. I find "Elixer" (Lotusflower)by far "exaltly" romantic.

This album is a grower not a show-er.

Anyhoo, this album reminds me of Strong Than Pride. Not in style but in its tone. It's a very haunted album...one that's going to take repeated listenings to truly understand and appreciate .

Slightly off topic....What is the general Consensus regarding Sade's best album?

It seems based on a cursory reading here that Love Deluxe might prevail. However, I always felt/thought that Promise was the best album.

I am not sure which of the albums is more critically acclaimed or preferred, so For those who prefer Love Deluxe, in what ways is it a better album.....Is it that the songs are just more meaningful to you, or is it the sound, production style of the overall album that you prefer?

Good question and a hard one to answer, but I'm gonna go with "Promise." Not only is it a great album, it holds some sentimental value for me.
