I have to admit I wasn't immediately impressed on the first listen, but after listening to it in its entirety a couple more times and reading the lyric booklet..I'm lovin it, and now it's on repeat!

I have not yet bought the album so have only heard some of the songs from snippets and free promotion links.

It sounds like classic Sade, and I love what I have heard so far. However, I am wondering just how many times she can mine the depths of sorrow, and pain, and loss, before she needs to move on.Of course, she might still be dealing with all of these things in her life so who am I to say she should "deal with it and move on", but I wonder if she really can be this depressed, or whether it is simply easier to write about this subject, albeit for so many years?

She has been writing about some of these themes for over 20 years (witness Promise and War of the Hearts, Your not the Man, etc...) and I wonder if we just have to allow her to continue in this despair, loss, melancholy, or she needs to shake things up and try attacking some more life affirming themes, or even political ones....

I cant fault the music, even some of the stuff that I hear old musical references popping up from the past....

I think that some of the "less memorable" tunes get by because of her unique smoky, seductive and polished vocals and the always thought-provoking lyrics, since to my ears, the music sometimes is not special enough to really stay with you.

As some have said, some songs don't HIT YOU hard....but they are good nonetheless. Is there a "Paradise, or Sweetest Taboo" or Smooth Operator"...to name a few? Probably not....but even so, from what I have heard, I cant say that the overall effort falls markedly below her previous albums.....biased as I am.

Wowugotit

Sorry to tell you all this but the album sucks. It is very bland and is missing the magic of previous albums. There is nothing on this album besides the track "Soldier of Love" that resonates with me.

This album is slightly disappointing. sad

I mean, it's not like it's horrible by any stretch of the word (come on, it's Sade LOL), but I guess when you take so many years in between albums, one expects to be WOWED every time.
I have to pay more attention to it over the next few days, but I played it about 3 times in a row, while doing some stuff around the house, and I just felt like I was listening ... to stuff I'd already heard from her. There was nothing really exciting. sad

That said, I didn't care for Lover's Rock at first and it went on to become one of my favorite albums by anyone ever. But I don't think that's gonna be the case this time.

eek I killed Media Player listening to this album non-stop. I missed the Today Show, but I will catch that after I post this. I'm gonna miss The View tomorrow, but, I JUST SAW HER ON LETTERMAN!!!!! excited I had to get up and dance and sing. Soldier of Love is my jam. The beat, the deepness....her voice...

Ahhh but my favorite song after that is Moon and Sky. I played it over and over. I'm tellin' ya, it's like she was watching me the past few years. Lucky David...I wanna kiss Sade too!! mad

I agree with those who were slightly disappointed. It's a good album but I was expecting much more than what it is, which is just another somber Sade album. I would have enjoyed it more so if it had more variety. It just seemed like Lover's Rock II.

Normally, I love Sade's subdued style, but this album is just too dull and monotonous. With the way the music drones on, I could barely get through it. sigh

Except for old classics I rarely buy CD's but I'll be getting this one ASAP.
Rhainna and so many other untalented hacks should pick up a copy and listen to how it's done.
Sade is someone they should emulate. Very few of the current crop are worth a damn.

Glad to have Ms Adu back! love
