What 80's song does this remind u of

Easy, "Man in the Mirror" especially the ending.

I think we were supposed to say 'When Doves Cry" lol

Anywhoo! when Michael performed "Man In The Mirror" live it was a extremely emotional experience. I almost forgot how to breathe when I watched it for the first time. nod

Cry is great. Another underrated track. Not too sappy (ala The Lost Children) with a nice, classic-MJ epic ending.

One is the track with the original (or mostly original) instrumentation, the other is an "orchestral" version with a string section added.

They're not all that different.

Oops, should have been more specific, I'm talking about the actual album. On Amazon, there is two, one for $9.99 and the other for $19.99.

THIS IS IT- $9.99

Disc one features the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits such as "Billie Jean," "Smooth Criminal," "Human Nature," and "Thriller" arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of "This Is It," the original and an orchestral version. "This Is It" is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael's brothers, the Jacksons.
Disc two offers fans a rare listen to the early demo versions of classics "She's Out Of My Life," "Wanna Be Startin'," "Somethin'," and "Beat It." This disc also features a recently discovered spoken word poem from Michael Jackson entitled "Planet Earth."

Michael Jackson's This Is It also includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal.

THIS IS IT- $19.99

Limited Edition 2-Disc set featuring the music that inspired MICHAEL JACKSON'S THIS IS IT, a deluxe 36-page booklet and souvenir movie poster.

Disc one features the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of the never-released "This Is It." This song is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael's brothers, the Jacksons.

Disc two offers previously unreleased versions of some of the artist's classic tracks. This disc also features a touching spoken word poem from Michael Jackson entitled "Planet Earth" that has never been heard before.

The package includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal along with an 11x17 movie poster printed in support of the film launch.

From these descriptions, the only difference seems to be that one comes with a poster, and one does not.

One may come in a jewel case and the other I think has a packaging similar to Thriller 25 with the hardback cardboard booklet form.

Now this is something I am truly not interesting in seeing. sad

Why?

Personally I will watch. I love J5 and The Jacksons but I have a bad feeling that this will end with controversy like so much else with this family.

Is this going to be a reality show or a documentary? Well, if it´s a documentary, fine. I thought it was a reality show and if it is than I am not really interested in seeing that. I hate reality shows in general. I think they are so stupid and I don´t understand why someone would wanna be filmed all the time. And also, I don´t know why, but I don´t like the fact that prior to his death I haven´t heard of or seen his brothers at all and now they happen to be everywhere.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

He ain't big in Asia and Africa? OK... lol
Well if he wasn't popular in Asia, why did China wanted him to perform there so badly? Why is he revered in Taiwan and India and South Korea? Why did he sold out stadiums and got mobbed when he arrived in Japan?

Oh and Africa, the same continent where in one country, he was actually crowned a honorary prince at? OK... that's "unpopular", lol. lol

I admit I was wrong with Asia. Asia is big and consists of many countries. The ones that are Communist countries are less Mj affine than Japan or Korea.

Speaking of China: Even if he has 1 mio fans in there, they just make up less than 0,1% of ALL CHINESE people, so you can't say he was HUGE in China.

The Africa-crowning thing is sth the media reported because it's funny, but in fact, MJ didn't have the impact on Africa's nations than he had in Europe pr America.

This SHOULD be sarcastic but it's unfortunately true: Many Africans have other problems than whether or not they own Thriller deluxe or sth. Even if they've heard Billie Jean on the radio, they're not FANS!

Where did you get this impression? Because this is completely untrue. The Jackson 5 were huge in the '70s and Michael has been megahuge since the '80s. Granted, he hadn't released much in the last few years but if he had, it would have been on heavy rotation. Back in the days, we were convinced that "Shamone" was "sho mo" because that means "You know" in Yoruba and I remember some songs, like "Why you wanna trip on me?" being translated and sung on the playground. Of course, this was only done for fun since English is our primary language.

The Michael Jackson memorial DVD (granted, it was bootleg) was being sold in Nigeria, in the last few months. Same with his CDs. All bootleg but the interest was definitely there.

These are pictures taken outside one of the major malls in Lagos in the middle of August.

This was inside the mall

About two months ago, someone already posted this thread in this forum. It's about the influence Mike had on Nigerian artists in the '80s. Some of the artists even changed their names to sound like Mike's, for example, Moses Jackson and Michael Eborson.
http://prince.org/msg/8/317264

When he passed, African fans mourned along with those in other parts of the world and even though there are problems, it doesn't mean we don't have time for great music. The music industry is currently thriving in many parts of Africa.

When he passed, there were quite a few tributes done in his honor.

But I can only speak for Nigeria and Ivory Coast as those are the countries I've lived in. But I suspect it's similar in other countries.

Michael was huge in Africa

for example:

Michael had 27 Top 10 singles in Zimbabwe, 12 being #1. Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory were all #1 albums

He had more than 10 Top 10 singles in South Africa where Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous were #1 also

The Jackson 5 did a very celebrated weeklong tour in Senegal in 1974. A documentary was made and archived (It was on Youtube but taken down. It was shown at a film festival a couple of months ago)

With basketball, you have stats and numbers. With dancing, it's subjective. MJ was graced with two things: being able to dance, and also a dancer's body. Someone can try and try to get his moves down pat and still won't look as good as MJ did because they just don't have the form.

Usher is really a great dancer, but I really wouldn't put him up against MJ at his best. To me, MJ got better as the years went on. During the HIStory tour.. I mean, those Billie Jean segments were insane.

Even in 2002 when he did Dangerous on American Bandstand he looked in pretty good form. So far of the little clips from This Is It, he's not doing any true all-out dancing, but during the little military-like rehearsal and his short little freestyle at the beginning of The Way You Make Me Feel, he looked like he still had the rhythm in him.

To me, as much as I like Usher as a dancer, he's not stood out from the pack, really. He can dance like James Brown and MJ a bit, but to me, both of them did it better, and they did it first. I would probably even put Prince above Usher. I can't really explain it, the other three just seem more organic as dancers.

*Also, when I saw the "Yeah" video, I thought "Rock With You 2k".
[Edited 10/22/09 4:39am]

I always thought of it as a bit of an insult comparing MJ with Usher. There is no comparison. I am not enthralled when I see Usher moving. His moves aren't outstanding. Prince, I always thought had natural, instinctive, abilities that just worked. Though, you definitely see James Brown in Prince's moves, with some Prince thrown in. You don't get the feeling that he's copying anybody.

When I watch MJ, I'm riveted. I see a lot of originality and classic dancer moves thrown in. MJ isn't just dancing, he becomes the dance. He combines so many styles with his own style. That is the difference, he's got his own.
Mj's moves are also timeless. And if he wanted to get trendy, he could do that too. There wasn't a move he couldn't do. I just wish I could have seen more of that tap dancing, that he was so capapble of. I never expected MJ to come with new moves and re-invent his style, like Ortega said he didn't need to re-invent himself.

"You Not Me"

Why can we see eye to eye
She thinks she right, he's wrong
He thinks he's right, she's wrong

Yesterday I set you free
or is it that you walked out on me
Too blind to see the truth that be
the hurt's on you walk carefully
open your eyes if you cannot see
my love's so right

I blame you you blame me
The truth, the truth will set you free
A life for me, no more we

You purt the rest on yourself
I hope you'll see
it's living in love for me, it's living in love

You took the car, but I hold the key to happiness

that's what for me

Material things don't mean much to me
