I collected tapes exclusively from 1990 to 1994, when I got my first CD player. My first 2 CDs were presents- Ace of Base's The Sign and TTD's single for "Delicate". lol

I'm honestly not sure whether it was the Velvet Underground's 1969 Live or Heyday by the Church. They were bought very closely together, but I can't recall which was first. I still really like that Church album, but I haven't listened to the VU (any album) in years.

(not this exact one, but one just like it)

shrug
I had bought a SONY 5-disc CD changer that set me back 4 weeks' pay (about $250) and had to wait a week or 2 before I could afford a $20 CD. It was right before the holidays, and I was at Tower Records when I came across a bargain CD.

Hey. Christmas, salsa and breastessessess. What more do you want?

By very first CD, I assume you are referring to an actual CD and not an album such as vinyl, cassette, 8 track, etc. As far as CDs go, those damn CD players were too expensive and I couldn't afford one until around 1996 or 1997. My very first CD was Prince's "Symbol" album....the one with "Sexy MF" on it. I bought it and replaced the cassette I had bought back when the album was first released. I always hated cassettes but had no other choice than to buy them when vinyl went out of style until I could afford a CD player. Then I went back and started getting all the previous Prince albums on CD since I was scared they would eventually go out of print like so many other albums by other artists did.

Wait a minute....I take that back. I had forgotten that I bought Prince's "The Black Album" when it was released on CD probably around 1994. I didn't even have a CD player at the time but I heard "The Black Album" was only going to be sold for a limited amount of time so I just bought it and kept it until I got a CD player a few years later. In the meantime, I listened to the shitty bootleg cassette that someone had made me years earlier.
