nod That's exactly what we need! Some retro funk/disco jams!! So many other people are riding the shit hop bandwagon, but Jamiroquai makes music the Old School way. They're making music as if we're still in 1978 and I have no problem with that.

There's nothing wrong with sounding like it's 1978. It's better than sounding like it's 1878 which is what the current artists sound like by making tons of slow to midtempo stuff with no ass shaking material whatsoever. lol

Everybody's Going to the Moon, From Titan A.E. movie soundtrack
You Snooze is a Synkronized outtake
Wolf in Sheeps Clothing was a B-side for Canned Heat Single UK Import
Funktion, was on some overseas releases of Traveling Without Moving

Jay Kay is almost like Prince with the outtakes, rare releases and B-side. There are quite a few songs I'm trying to hunt down. I have two already.

i liked the first 3, but after Travelling Without Moving, i think they got a bit too obsessed with trying to do Stevie Wonder and disco homages. there was something interesting about the first 2 and the 3rd was great, but after they got a taste of massive pop success, i think they just kept trying to recapture it.

hmmm Not sure what to think, but I doubt that this is the real thing (even though it looks sorta convincing).I do like the idea of getting a whopping 22 tracks (special edition). They take so long to release albums,I'd be thrilled to get that many tracks at one time, since the next CD won't come out until 5 or 6 years, lol.

Oh lord, there's the "they think they are Stevie Wonder" comment again rolleyes. One snarky, narrow-minded Rolling Stone music critic pulled out 1 of maybe 7 of the usual R&B artist that American music critics “feel” are the HOLY GRAIL of black music (Stevie, Aretha, Marvin, Al Green, Sly Stone, Otis, Ray) and decided to make a bunch of stupid far reaching comparisons based on that ONE artist. Ever since then US critics and people in general have been parroting that sentiment about Jamiroquai's music without actually listening to ALL of it. “Oh it’s got a 4/4 beat, their making disco, “Oh he’s singing about love & helping the Earth, he thinks he’s Stevie Wonder” This is the only group where being compared to Stevie Wonder is a negative. Jamiroquai music is what it is, you either like it or you don't. Jay Kay has admitted his music is influenced by American r&b, funk, jazz fusion, and disco artist, only one of them being Stevie Wonder. But their music is no more influenced by Stevie than it is by Earth Wind & Fire. Jamiroquai's music is FAR more akin to Roy Ayers, Johnny Hammond, Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Quincy Jones, Emuir Deodato, Sergio Mendes, Antonio Jobim with some electro/house & rock bits thrown in. Most so called American music journalist rarely reference these influences when they review a Jamiroquai album, when it's clear to anyone with ears that these artist are more their influences than Stevie Wonder. But even with these influences, their music is still authentically THEIR music. Their sound, though decidedly and purposely dance oriented, is a lot more than just “disco” music. Their cord changes/ progressions, arrangements and lyrics are much more sophisticated than they are generally given credit for. Maybe they do it too well and people think they are not trying hard enough, who knows. If you don't like Jamiroquai, of course that's you choice (they don't appeal to everybody). Hopefully people will stop listening to others limited opinions about this group and just listen to them for what they are, which great music makers, not some cheesy wannabe Stevie disco act. They don't have a 17 year career based on being fluke artist.

Sorry, I'm not feelin' it at all.
Maybe because the only good Jamiroquai is the early Jamiroquai. I'm remember when I got their first 12" single back in 1992, before they signed to Sony. I loved the positive message and the grooves were nice. And I also remember the hype in Europe before their first album was released in '93 .. Blow my mind was a burner on the dancefloors. And I also remember their shows in small, smokey clubs ... before they went mainstream. That was some good Jamiroquai, even though Jay has always been an asshole.
Unfortunately, after their second album, they were burnt out ... and sold out. Everything that they released after that was some watered down wanna be Funk and cheesy Disco ... and that's when they lost touch with their original fan base, and it became clear what a hypocrite Jay really is.
Bottom line, the clip you posted above is nothing but a shadow of what this band used to be ... if you like it, more power to you. But to me, Jamiroquai today is nothing more but a nice break from commercial radio, but still not good enough to make it on my own turntable.

I look at it this way: We need somebody to keep that sound alive lol We have all these artists jumping on the shit hop bandwagon,or making bland American pop music.Jamiroquai is keeping the funk/disco/70s sound alive and I think it's refreshing.I wish more of today's bands would go that route.

those genres are pretty much dead for a reason. because they got stuck in one sound and never really progressed. and i think Jamiroquai got sucked into that vortex when they started making that kind of music. doing a dated style of music is fine, I guess, but why not try to bring something new to it? why not try to move it forward? admittedly, I haven't heard everything they've done in the last 10+ years, but nothing that I *have* heard has seemed like a very original or fresh take on anything. They're like the British Lennny Kravitz of disco-funk. And I say this a formerly pretty big fan. Of both, actually.

I think pop music in general is dead right now.Nobody is doing anything that hasn't been done before.I'm at the point now where,I would rather just hear my favorite artists doing retro-sounding music.I'd rather listen to a CD that sounds like 1978 instead of a CD that sounds like 2009.As someone who grew up doing that time,I appreciate the way music was made back then.Thick basslines, strings,UPTEMPO SONGS that are based on grooves.Jamiroquai understands the importance of a good groove.I wouldn't call them "original" or "groundbreaking",but that's OK with me.I just want good music, which, sadly, isn't being made by too many of today's artists and bands.

and to those who dismiss them as a "disco act",I guess you haven't heard these songs:

"Seven Days In Sunny June (2005)

"Black Devil Car" (2005)

"Radio" (2006)

Their recent albums are filled with songs that cover the whole spectrum (funk, disco, rock, even jazzy ballads).

Jamiroquai has ALWAYS had dance oriented plus a variety of other music on ALL of their albums especially post TWM. The fact they are REAL musicians gives them the opportunity to experiment with different sounds which they always do on each album, if you bother listen to their FULL albums. I would hardly call them stuck. If you don't like anything remotely rhythmic or dance oriented then this is not a band for you. Their sound is THEIR sound you either take it or leave it. Anyway, dance music is not dead and never will die. As long as people like to snap & dip, tap their feet, or put on something that puts them in a good positive mood...dance music will never go away. What is wrong with listening to up-tempo music anyway? Does it make you soft or gay??? What would be the alternative???? What should they do? start rapping?, using hooks & beats, use autotune, go country, or become moody singer songwriters? Start running credit cards through chicks asses in their videos LOL!? These cats do what they do and they do it VERY well. Anyway here are some "non-disco" shrug Jamiroquai songs, if you hate these, well... it is what it is.
