It must be the stress and disbelief about Michael being gone, but I laughed like hell at this routine.

May you find the peace in death that eluded you in life, Michael.

Sure. But none of that justifies the modern phenomena of hysterical outpourings of public grief. Quite simply its an insult to those who have genuinely suffered personal loss. Being human means having dignity, and feelings for others, not trying to grab the sympathy for ones self.

public grief is not modern, grief like music is personal it affects people based on a number of factors, yes there are fake people but you get that at private family events just as you get it at public events ...

MJ music is personal it creates the relationship, it forms a bond over many years , you feel it , it's soul, he passed away and yes i have tears for him and his family and my own personal relationship to his music.

Are my tears fake? no they are real, am i hurt yes, i'm sad ..will life go on yes it will it always does but grief stays around for awhile days/ months /years ... grief is the memory of personal connection a special bond that can't be replaced that can never be again...it has passed.

Alot of people feel this today

Become human again

No, i believe its all our fault, and those people especially who constantly criticized him for not performing, and not releasing music in the last decade or so, calling him a "hasbeen" or "lazy" etc.
We are guilty of it at some point.
The cumalitive amount of pressure he must have been under must have been terrible.
All just to please everyone, the fans, etc.

You could tell from the O2 press conference he really meant it as his final curtain call, he no longer wanted to perform, and I don't blame him, I really believe he wanted to relax and enjoy his life with his children,

Wasn't 30+ years of performing, music enough for people?
Apparently No.

Yet we, the public demanded it from him, like he owed us something.

MJ didn't owe any of us anything, he'd already given us so much joy and excitement to last a fucking century.

Not forgetting, the leeches and bloodsuckers screwing him over 24/7, everyone wanting to "make a bit of money" from him.

I'm glad that he least found some hapiness with his own children.

But it fucking sucks, the man was only 50, and didn't deserve to go out like that.

Its a sad day, a real sad day.
RIP.

I think what happened to mike was due to exhaustion from rehearsals, taking sleeping pills, and I agree with what you said, People didn’t want Mj to grow up, they wanted him this singing machine that never stops, and they forget that he was a human being.

Mj is at peace now, something he didn’t get when he was alive sad ..RIP

What gets me is why did his doctor give him a clean bill of health if he was in no condition to perform. You're right. He's at peace now, and I woke up this morning trying to fight back the tears, but...cry

i agree

then again, the media loves MJ and pretty much created the MJ frenzy and meanwhile innocent lives are being taken in Iran

Correction MJ created the frenzy the media reported it!
innocent lives are being taken 100 miles from your door ...you don't have to go to iran to find it...
Both points have nothing to do with the sad passing of MJ

R.I.P[/quote]

I;d say they're very much related and part of the point made about modern socieyy, its whims and its priorities. People get brutally murdered = some media coverage and public comment. A pop singer dies = Blanket media coverage and mass outpourings of grief and attempts to place your ones self as one of the victims.

I'd say that very much a relevant observation.

OH who gives a fuck? Whos gives a fuck if our grief is selfish, if we're making ourselves victims. This is how we feel. I cant help feeling like this even if its not 'natural' or whatever you're trying to say, actually I dont even get what you're trying to say. You telling us this isn't going to change anything, how we feel, whatever.

I'm not really sure what your problem is, or why you feel the need to be callous and condescending to people at this time. A gold star for you for not being impacted by his death. However, others are feeling a loss, and are dealing with it in their own way. I see no reason why you can't leave them alone.

Responding to questions and responses? Absolutely. Be rude not to I'm sure you'll agree.

And although I may have suspected the type of asnwers I would get from some, I also hoped that others would be interested and "normal" enough to be able to discuss such an aspect of this event. And I was right on both counts. Either way, it's, for me, an very interesting subject and also important in terms of the broad direction our society in taking i.e. fucked-up priorities, culture of seeking victimhood, lack of perspective, and increasingly empty lives to the point where some bloke dying who we've only ever seen on a screen in our lounges, or from a few hundred feet amognst thousands, provokes a reaction akin to personal loss of family etc. Troubling stuff indeed.

I dont buy the recreational grief thing. People are mourning because moments like this bring us face to face with the harsh realities of life and our own mortality. when even those we put on a pedestal like Diana & MJ can be brought down, we realise we all can be too. People should be allowed to feel whatever grief they like about it - no one is in a place to tell anybody what they should be feeling.

MJs music has touched more people than would care to admit it - and is the soundtrack to not one, but several generations.

While his work hasn't resonated with me for some time, one listen to any of his classic material takes me straight back to memories from my own life - and the sheer exuberance of his earlier work will live forever.

Its sad that his life became somewhat tortured. No one will ever know the whole truth about MJ, but we can know for sure his fame has ultimately killed him - chipping away at him year on year, and if the rumours about his prescription drug addiction are to be believed, its sad that his death resulted from something so ultimately avoidable.

Itll take a long time to come to terms with this - but hopefully his legacy will be one of joy and peace rather than specualtion and negativity - as has been the case for the last 15 years.

Thank you for posting this - and well said. clapping

I read an interview with an actress the other day and she was stating how, at times, she had questioned her purpose in the whole scheme of things - is/was it worth it? what's the point? etc - until someone pointed out that it DOES matter. Musicians, painters, authors, actors/actresses, comedians, artists of all kinds... they take us out of the humdrum. They add another dimension to our lives. They are incredibly important to so many people, in so many different ways. We all have our own experiences and history to draw on... I only have to hear a SECOND of certain songs and I am immediately transported back to another era. And God knows how certain songs/movies/books get us through difficult times...

I was thinking about this last night: the Average Joe works - what? - 40, maybe 50 years. Sometimes in a career/field they love, if they're lucky; the rest of us have to make do/put up and shut up with a job that pays the bills. lol neutral How amazing to be an artist, like MJ, that not only spent his life doing what he loved (and was damn good at it), but had ALREADY - at age 50 - put the 40 years of graft in. He may have never performed another concert, never sung another tune, never have made another public appearance and still he would have put in an 'average' life's work. And, yet, some people expect so much. Why is it - when you're a celebrity - you are expected to work, and please your fans, until you drop? Some people wouldn't have been satisfied unless MJ carried on until he was 80 years old; yet we don't expect that of any normal individual. He had put in the graft - and still had the potential to do so. The tragedy is that we'll never, ever get the chance to see what may have been...

So sad. sad

The next few weeks will test humanity. Im fearing the worst.

To all the MJ fans on here, i hope you all are ok.

I may of lost interest in the music but, the man, never. I defended him with all i got when it came to falsehoods like the trial etc. I was a massive fan for years and was on MJ forums before here. It feels like that part of me has died. I still can't believe it.

Its sad that the only way for MJ to be vindicated as a human being was through death...now everyones his biggest fan....typical. He had a purity that no one understood, we crucified him because of that and he loved us till the very end, even through all the hate towards him.

i just heard on the 4 o clock news over here in the netherlands that
the biggest recordstores are now all out of michael jackson albums.

people have bought so many that new ones need to be printed up with
a quickness since the demand is enormous.

online retailer bol.com stated that every 10 seconds a michael jackson
album is being ordered/sold.

eek

so i guess there's a whole lot of people who want to brush up on their
michael or complete their collection.

Not an experiment, an observation. And quite why discussing a key (indeed, one of the few) consequences of his death would antagonise anyone I have no idea. It's not a new discussion either, its been held over the Diana drama many times before. What better time to discuss it than in the midst of another example? I would hope Mj fans could provide some interesting insights as to why they have these overblown reactions. There have certainly been some so far..
