There's too many great front men of the rock & roll era, choosing one would be pushing it. biggrin

There's never a definitive answer to these GOAT questions.
It simply ends up being just another personal preference popularity contest.

That being said, and judging by his lack of votes, I guess nobody remembers Chuck Berry in his prime...

...He had the moves, the self-written songs, and signature riffs "borrowed" (without renumeration) to this day by countless guitarists.

Even before the guitar came to the forefront, there was Louis Jordan...

...Caldonia

I can already hear someone saying, "That's not Rock & Roll".
Well they called it Jump but imo that was just a way to keep certain groups "boxed-out".
Now if you can't detect the familiar rhythm all I can do is paraphrase Sidney Deane, "You can listen to R&R, but you can't hear R&R."

Doing a 180 and going the traditional route, here are a couple of "off the wall" choices.

Small Faces fronted by Steve Marriott...

...Tin Soldier (w/former Ikette Pat "P.P." Arnold ) & Itchycoo Park

Although Angus Young isn't the lead singer, his energetic demeanor (not to mention guitar playing) makes him the focal point...

...Girl's Got Rhythm (Bon Scott era) & Shoot To Thrill (Brian Johnson era)

And just because he's so over the top, DLR...

...Yankee Rose

As for one of the ultimate showman...

...Jimi Hendrix (when he was into being that)
