The Jackson effect
Billion pound Michael Jackson 'economic stimulus package' is coming

by Georgie Rogers

07 May 2009 - The Michael Jackson residency at the 02 Arena is going to give a billion pound boost to the economy, according to the second-hand ticket website Seatwave.

It kicks off in London on 8 July, taking in 50 dates until February next year.

Joe Cohen, chief executive of Seatwave, explained to 6 Music: “There’s gonna be somewhere near on a billion pounds worth of economic activity brought to London through hotels, restaurants, shops, pubs, people coming to see Michael Jackson.

“It’s the Michael Jackson economic stimulus package that the tax payer isn’t paying a penny for.”

Ticket trading

Seatwave revealed it has already traded 10,000 tickets for the gigs.

In spite of the number of tickets out there, people have been buying and selling in their thousands, said Cohen: “We’ve sold in the neighbourhood of 10,000 tickets so far.

“Depending on the reviews are after the first couple of shows, we think that number should have at least doubled by the end of the run.

“I’m not surprised at all this is the most popular performer of a generation who hasn’t performed for a very long time and may not perform again for a very long time, if ever.”

Cohen claimed a third of the buying and selling that is going on at Seatwave is between people trying to upgrade their tickets for better seats.

Doubt has been cast on whether the singer will be able to sustain such a long series of comeback dates, after photographs emerged of the 50 year-old looking frail, but Cohen reckons there’s no cause for concern.

“I don’t think that AEG Live would have put this together if they weren’t absolutely confident that Michael Jackson could perform all of these dates to the best of his ability,” he said.
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Michael...I am worried

http://www.examiner.com/x...rehearsals

The self-titled King of Pop is having a very difficult time making it through rehearsals for his This is It concert series that starts in London on July 8. The latest event came yesterday when Michael was rehearsing for the performance of the song “Bad.” He was lip-syncing, as usual, and trying to do the same crazy dance moves he did years ago, which obviously doesn’t fit him today. Michael walked off stage, went to the restroom and vomited before he could even get to the toilet. He stayed in the bathroom crying for fifteen minutes, screaming for everybody to just leave him alone.

I’m starting to think that the show would be better off without Michael Jackson. He could just sit in the audience and wear a “King of Pop” t-shirt. I am told that she show is more about special effects than it is about Michael Jackson, who lip-syncs more than half of the show. However, desperate times call for desperate measures and we all know how Michael Jackson needs the money.

fake. He's been in rehearsals for 2 months now. Some of the dancers are on Twitter and they say he's been at rehearsals

Wacko Ordered To Gain Some Weight
Filed under: Music Minute > Michael Jackson

As if Michael Jackson didn't have enough problems to deal with, it seems his weight is another issue.

The pin thin musician must be on the Victoria Beckham diet, cuz he's looking skinnier everyday.

In fact, reports state Wacko is about 20lbs underweight and really needs to pile on the pounds before he starts his upcoming 50 shows in London, which begin on July 8th and go through February 24th.

However, promoters from AEG claim the 50-year-old King of Pop is "extremely fit" and in perfect condition to do the shows. Many insiders doubt that's the truth, adding that he's to frail to even do some of the dance steps.

One source says “There are concerns Michael is too frail. He has been ordered to eat more but he refuses to and eats like a bird."

In the meantime, Jacko is rehearsing in constantly in Los Angeles.

Don't forget to eat!

One more offtopicomment :

The reason that it tends to go offtopic at times is there might not be fresh news everyday about the upcoming shows and stuff. That's how a discussion starts to live it's own life in such situations.
At first, there was also the "Let's Talk Mike"-topic, but that one had to go probably because of lesser postings. The O2-topic was kept as a sticky because of it's actuality, but some people still might
want to discuss about other MJ-related subjects so where do they go ? lol shrug twocents

And i've seen way longer topics before, lol : http://prince.org/msg/7/279744?&pg=30

I have a thought...

OK, so this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Jackson 5's national rise to the top via their Motown debut, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5. I figured Motown could make this great by re-issuing that album as a fortieth-anniversary deluxe edition (much like The Supremes' 1964 album, "Where Did Our Love Go" in 2004) and have a two-disc set (priced under $10, lol), one side featuring all the original tracks and some songs left off the album that was NOT included, and then have a second disc with some of its Steeltown singles, instrumentals, and live performances.

I'll present a track listing later but what ya think? It'll be better than just going out with the box set Jay was talking about earlier, lol. Plus it wouldn't be a hard album to make since the album WAS recorded in DETROIT for the most part (except for "I Want You Back").

My boxset idea was awesome hmph! lol

I was thinking the same thing too. But you can best believe they have something planned after seeing the success of Thriller 25, the upcoming shows and the upcoming release of Off The Wall 30

I'm thinking all of that stuff will come out at the end of the year ("Hello World"). If anything it'll be a crime if they didn't re-release DRPTJ5 for its own anniversary. To me it's a big deal. nod

The box set was a great idea, don't get me wrong, lol, but honestly I don't think it will happen unless Motown revived that "Soulsation" set and changed it up a bit.

It doesnt make me laugh. Unless you think MJ is Jesus and is automatically in shape after a long layoff. Professional athletes throw up even when they are in shape. MJ is 50 years old. do Do u honestly think since 2001 he was on the track running sprints to keep his wind up. Dancing for a long period of time requires conditioning and i doubt MJ had it beginning of rehearsels. Unless he's jesus. Even Boxers beginning of training camp have to build up there conditioning after a long layoff. There winded a lot more then at the end of camp when there in peak shape. So it wouldnt surprise me if MJ threw up not just once, but a couple of times.

Typical fan attitude, attack the person bringing the lawsuite instead of asking themselves if Michael is the problem, for one person to attract so many lawsuits something has to be wrong.

And for a fan to ridicule others like Ms Bain over their looks is laughable. Because no matter how ridiculous Ms Bain looks with her fake blonde weave, she still looks more normal than Michael could ever look.

While you make excellent points, I don't know if I think he is a "serial cheat and a liar". I think he needs to get himself good management and also he seems to always do things which are beyond his means. Lets face it, MJ is a millionaire who spends like a billionaire. That would give anyone problems. Also in the music industry if someone is not paid they sue the star because that gets more attention, when in fact they should sue the Management company.
Why am I defending MJ here? I knew a sound engineer in New York who once said to me that MJ is the most generous star in the business. His exact quote was "People buy homes with the money MJ pays them. He is generous to a fault." Clearly that is not someone I would lable a "serial cheater".

Don't ask. lol There ARE good things about this guy. The good tends to outweigh the bad. smile

Plus the people he has hired haven't turned out to be very good managers (Ray-Ray was initially just a spokesperson and his defense attorney fired her...and Brian OxBrains for that matter too).

Anyway, I don't know if this case will get to first base. hmmm

Paramedic Drops Suit Against Michael Jackson

The paramedic who recently claimed that his ambulance was struck by Michael Jackson's SUV has advised Radar Online that, per his lawyer's advice, he is dropping the pending case. Jamin Mauro originally told the media that Michael Jackson's speeding vehicle sideswiped his parked ambulance, dislocating the driver's side mirror and scraping the side of the vehicle. Although the initial police report indicated that "there were no injuries reported," and that it was being treated as a "minor accident," Mauro subsequently told Radar Online, TMZ, and other outlets that he and his partner suffered head, neck, shoulder, and elbow injuries after their heads smashed into the windows upon impact. Mauro's allegations and his so-called photographic evidence seemed to directly contradict raw video footage from the paparazzi filming in the area at the time. The serious contradictions in his story have been detailed in-depth in earlier reports on MJJR.net. In the statement to Radar Online, Mauro simply stated: "We have decided to drop our case after further talks with our lawyer. Mr. Jackson is a very nice man and it's the right thing to do -- that's all I'm prepared to say at this time."

nod The way these guys bury their heads in the sand is unbelievable. This is about the twentieth time he's been sued for not paying people. If a guy is getting repeatedly sued by different people for the SAME THING, then no matter how big a fan you are, eventually you have to face the fact that your man has some major ethical shortcomings. Actually, that's too polite. Let's keep it real here. The man is a serial cheat and a liar. He even tried to get away with not paying his Neverland staff (including low-paid cleaners). They only got paid their wages after a judge FORCED HIM to pay them. To not see the trend here requires major self-delusion.

I don't think mJ intentionally lies and cheats but I do believe he takes liberties. I am aware that some of the lawsuites brought against him are frivolous but when you get John Landis and a Sheikh suing you, I do believe he is the problem. I have never heard of another celebrity getting sued continuously the way Michael Jackson does. I am sure the likes of Bill Gates and Oprah who are richer than Michael get lawsuits too, but nowhere do I hear a lawsuit coming their way at least once a week.

Of course he'sot automatically in shape after a long down period. It would seem logical to assume that he got himself into shape earlier this year, though in order to pass all the rigorous physical tests he had to go through in order to secure insurance.
