do you thnik Ne-Yo is an underrated artist...?

I would say he's overrated.

People are always saying what a great songwriter he is, but fact is, all he writes are lyrics. Have you seen a Ne-Yo song where he gets full writing credit?

How do you know this? The guy got his start writing songs for other R&B acts on the radio- and even after releasing his own albums he still writes #1 Billboard hits for other people. I highly doubt that all he writes are the lyrics on his songs, if for no other reason than every song of his sounds similar: a heavy break beat under 3 similar guitar chords.

- He's a pretty good songwriter but his voice is "eh"; he sounds whiny like the rest of them, maybe some of his songs aren't good enough to make up for his weak voice

- I can't even get through most of his songs because of that weak bass-less voice

His voice irks you too? lol There are so many with these whiny voices. How anybody listens to them is beyond me. Then have crappy music on top of it. It's a lose-lose situation.

I think he's a great song writer, but a terrible singer.

He's an average songwriter and vocalist. I like his music, but it's not overly brilliant, like other artists I listen to. He tries too hard to be Michael Jackson ala Thriller era.

Meaning he wrote the entire song without any help.

I've heard him say in different interviews that he writes the lyrics. Besides, look at his ASCAP writing file:

At first I hated him with that song "So Sick", and I still hate that song, but he has definitely grown on me. "Closer" was such an amazing song, one of the best last year.

I didn't care for "So Sick" or almost anything from his debut album. I did like the "Because of You" album. I thought it was one of the best from 07. I didn't like the last album, though. I despise "Closer". To me, it was his attempt at getting a song played on pop radio (which it worked). Before, he had tried, but could not manage to get that "pop breakthrough".

I see what you mean about getting help from other writers. I also noticed that a lot of his songs are not on that list because they weren't linked properly. Example: Let Me Love You (performed by Mario) and Irreplaceable (performed by Beyoncé)
That's a great site! Thanks for pointing it out.

I still think he's underrated compared to his pop/R&B peers. The kids are all excited about how great Rhianna, Chris Brown, and Lil' Wayne are. Compared to them, I think Ne-Yo should be getting a lot more respect.

Kinda like Babyface. I never was a fan of Face's voice, but he could write one hell of a song.

I saw him open for Alicia Keys twice last year, and was impressed by his stage presence. I am a rocker at heart, so I went into the show not knowing anything about him. I have to say it was one of the few times I was so impressed by the opening act that I bought the CD the next day. Great showman.(For a guy that did not play any instruments).Catchy songs.

I dont think he's underrated, he writes the same songs over and over again, changing a lyric here and there, occassionally getting creative, he's just an ok dancer, looks wise just ok, he could loose 10-15 pounds and do something to get back his hair line eek , vocally sounds just ok, doesnt try anything crazy with his voice, pretty predictable at this point

I agree with Graycap23, AVERAGE at best

If you search for those song titles, it shows him as the co-writer. I did Irreplaceable just to verify.

Not to mention, he could pay a visit to either Bosley or Hairclub for men.

The major difference is that Babyface actually paid some dues. He actually had to LEARN how to be a great songwriter.
