On Jody Watley's 1987 hit "Still A Thrill",she sings in a very deep,Grace Jones-like voice and there's a reason for that: the song was originally intended for Grace Jones! When Jody got her hands on the track, she decided to sing it the way that Grace would have.

Love Grace. That would have been a cool one from her pop days.

I didn't get that either... it was like a random script line all because Tina refused to return to Ike's control. lol

I loved it when she slammed that car and the window smashed. lol

Ike & Tina oddly enough didn't see each other again after 1976 so those scenes with Ike there were there for film purposes.

More proof that The Jets suck. "Neon Telephone" is one of the best Prince songs of any era. Seriously.

5. 'Rock Your Body' (From Michael Jackson to Justin Timberlake)
Superstar producers the Neptunes created this track for Michael Jackson's comeback album, 'Invincible,' but it didn't make the cut. Instead, Timberlake snared it and took it to the Top 5. Ironically, this was the song JT performed with Janet Jackson at Super Bowl XXXVIII during her infamous wardrobe malfunction.

So, if Michael Jackson had accepted that song, two things would have happened:

1) Invincible would have a good song on it.
2) Janet would have never performed it with Justin.

Tittygate is sorta Michael's fault! eek

I heard a rumor Floetry wanted to give "Butterflies" to Janet but either Janet refused to record it or she wasn't reached so Michael was the next best choice. I don't know much about who was chosen for "Don't Walk Away" first...

Wasn't most of Control rejected by Sharon Bryant?

"Holiday" by Madonna was rejected by Mary Wilson.

"Open Your Heart" by Madge was rejected by both The Temptations and Cyndi Lauper, before Madonna re-wrote the lyrics.

The music for "La Isla Bonita" was passed over by Michael Jackson; Madonna wrote the lyrics later.

I know Bowie wrote "Golden Years" for Elvis. Not sure if he passed on it, or wasn't aware of it.

Billy Idol passed on "Don't You (Forget About Me)", so did Bryan Ferry. I think Simple Minds almost did also.

Janet Jackson passed on "How Will I Know".

Not sure if Michael Jackson passed on "Ain't Nobody" or if it just wasn't ever given to him.

I Also thought Control was written for Cherrelle as well and she passed on it!!!

9. 'Toxic' (From Kylie Minogue to Britney Spears)
When offered first dibs, Minogue declined. She's probably still sore from kicking herself when 'Toxic' debuted in the U.K. at No. 1 the same week that she entered the chart four spots behind with the less memorable 'Red Blooded Woman.'

I mentioned this song on another thread when people were talking about pro-tools. If ever anybody wanted to know what all pro-tools can do, listen to this song. There is not one feature or button on pro-tools that wasnt used when creating this song.
Fun bubblegum song and very creative with its production.

You Rock My World is a pretty good song. the only real problem I see with it is that it came out in 2001 and it sounds like it was straight out of 1999. that particular version of the Rodney Jerkins sound was very dated by the time it was released.

I think that song is mediocre boxed Prince had much stronger songs during that period (1986/87) that he could have offered to them.

I remember when their second album 'Magic' was released in the fall of '87.For months,I had heard that it would include a Prince song.I find it in the record store, pick it up and look at the song titles: "Rocket 2 U".

I was like,"there it is....that's the Prince track!" lol

LOL, seriously,” rock your body" is not that good at all, its mediocre to say the least, so abstract and not melodic enough, in fact the majority of the songs on Justin’s album " Justified" were offered to mj.....they're all from mj's garbage can lol , if the neptunes offered a greater song, Mj would take it with no hesitation.

" Like i love you" was offered to Mj but turned it down....
"senorita" was offered to Mj but turn it down.....

"butterfiles" was never offered to janet, she knows that she can't handle the song vocally lol ,i remember that janet was happy when she heard the track, its her fav track on the "Invinicble" album....

As for the song "why" ,Mj's version still exist,it was supposed to be on the history album tracklist, he made a mistake and let his nephews to listen to the track, they loved it so much and asked for it,and Mj gave it to them...its one of few songs written with babyface during the "history" sessions,I bet Mj's version is better lol

A LOT of Taylor Dayne songs were originally offered to Whitney but Clive turned them down:
"Love Will Lead You Back" (Patti also could've turned this one down, damn how many fucking songs was Patti offered!? DAMN! lol )
"Tell It To My Heart"
"I'll Always Love You" (the Taylor Dayne hit)

Taylor in turn was offered "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?".

Everything Changes (written by Diane Warren) was intended for Taylor Dayne. It ended up being recorded by CCM artist Kathy Troccoli (who was also one of Taylor Dayne's backing vocalists at the time!).

For YEARS I thought that was a Taylor Dayne song. Sounds just like her. I once saw someone singing that in the store I worked at and asked her if she knew who sang it. I don't think she heard me...probably didn't know.

Dim All The Lights (From Rod Stewart to Donna Summers)

Yeah,Donna wrote this song and was planning to give it to Rod Stewart to record.Apparently,he wanted to get into disco music and requested a song from Donna.I don't know if she ever delivered it to him,but I'm sure he would have objected to one line in the song....

turn my brown body white lol

Interestingly,Casablanca Records tried to persuade Donna to give up either "Hot Stuff" or "Bad Girls" to her newly signed labelmate Cher.Donna was like "no fuckin way!"....lol...she wisely kept those two songs for herself.

I wasn't 100% sure which of those songs was "intended" for Cher (by Casablanca). Cher ended up co-wroting "Bad Love", kind of a combination of the two in tone, with Girgio for the 'Foxes" soundtrack (which Donna's "On the Radio" also ended up on, I believe). It's damn good!

LOL, I don't like "you rock my world" either boxed eek but still , "rock your body" is a total garbage and it will never be on the level of any song on the "off the wall" album , "Off the wall" has much greatness to be compared with this song.....
