Mariah Carey: An Overrated Singer Ok I'm watching youtube videos of the past and i just notice that Mariah Cary is so Overrated! 
Say what you wan't about Whitney but Mariah to me is that White artist (even if she not White,whatever!!) That people like to say is better then the real talent. Vocal-wise Whitney kills her, I never knew why they compare the two Mariah is what beyonce is to me now- Love/Hate overrated talent. I know what your going say Mariah writes all her song,She not a Crackwhore  .
We'll i'll say this Mariah Carey is a leona lewis with a bit of luck cause none of her songs does it for me, She has no Soul and is boring. Watch youtube and see Ms.Houston Perfrom The Greatest love all Love No gay male dancer,flashy lights,not Half dress cause she is singing i mean sanging. mariah started out singing great on her first few albums, but the whisper singing she does now just plain sucks!  | |

Teena Marie is white and she got more soul in her clit than Whitney Houston got in her body, just saying 
Personally, I think Mariah is more intersting than Whitney,,,,,Whitney tries to walk down the diva route(show up in the studio after everybody wrote her a song that CLIVE DAVIS picked  and then sing),,,,which is fine and dandy, but can we get a lil' more personal than that? 
Mariah's raw deal is the wack fluff that she ALWAYS sings these recent years(Touch My Body, Loverboy etc etc) but behind all that bullshit, she's a helluva song writer thats the reason why I root for her,,,,,Whitney could never come up with something like Sublte Invitation and Petals. I love Whitney but all I see is "Clive Davis' puppet", I'll start taking notes when she drops the phony "diva" act and show us something from the gut. [Edited 1/25/09 7:59am] | |

Mariah had an amazing voice on her earlier records. Her vocal abilities have declined recently and she doesn't sound so good anymore. She's never been a terrific live perfomer so looking at her live shows on youtube isn't really a good way to judge her singing.
I think people who say she's overrated probably aren't familiar with her earlier work and are just going by her recent recordings. | |

I agree that her voice is at it's best on the first 2 albums and the melodies are strong. I have all of her albums and each one has a good set of songs, or at least non-released tracks that made the album worth buying, but I really think she overdid it with the hip hop a lot of times. | |

She actually knows how to craft a song. How many of these no-talent chicks today can do that? I challenge ANY of these so-called "divas" to step up with anything remotely close to that performance.

I'm just saying a 8 octave range doesn't exist nor count. 5 octave range she has and it's right, (which is sick EITHER way trust me) anything else doesn't count.

There are 8 octaves on the piano and to count octaves you start with the lowest note and count to the same note in the next octave until you get the range. Now in order for Mariah to sing all eight octaves she’d have to be able to sing several notes lower than what any man can which is impossible even for someone with her range. The lowest most men can sing is a G2 while there are those like Viktor Wichniakov (a male opera singer) who can sing C2 (C1 in European standard). Mariah’s lowest note she ever sung was C3 at the end of My All, and the beginning of Emotions, and You’re So Cold–not A2 or D3 like some people keep saying. A singer’s true range is measured by the number of notes they can actually SING–not necessarily HIT" But moving on from that...
