Details on the biopic of the late R& B singer Aaliyah have recently been released.

The singer, you may recall, tragically died in a plane crash in 2001, leaving a video shoot in the Bahamas. A source working on the film reveals it “will go very deep into Aaliyah’s life” and will allow fans to see the “most intimate side of the singer’s legacy” including her marriage and annulment to singer/producer R. Kelly.

R.Kelly and Aaliyah allegedly married on August 31, 1994 in a secret ceremony. At the time of the wedding, Aaliyah was 15 years old and Kelly was 27.

Although the couple denied they had gotten married, in 2005 Vibe magazine eliminated all doubt by publishing the marriage license. Since Aaliyah had stated her age as 18 on the marriage license, the marriage was considered invalid and was quickly annulled.

According to Middle Child Promotions:

“The film will be a biopic of the singer’s life. Bill Condon, director of “Dream Girls” will be directing the film.

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have (Keisha) Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher,” says Condon.

Canadian R & B singer Keisha Chante will play Aaliyah. It has also been confirmed Aaliyah’s colleagues will be featured . Her choreographer Fatima Robinson, producer and friends, Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, even music video director Hype Williams will be a part of the film.

Fatima Robinson and Hype Williams were present on the "Rock the Boat" video shoot preceding Aaliyah’s untimely death. They will help re-create the set for the movie.

The yet-to-be-titled project is tentatively set to start production at the end of March and is rumored to have a production budget of over 80 million dollars.
