Oh God, yeah! She sings as if she has no teeth.

"Jumping Jack Flash, is a gas, gas, gas" becomes "Ummy aaargh aff, ivva gah, gah, gaaaahv". lol

Have you actually listened to any Hendrix albums all the way through to make such a statement? Like say Electric Ladyland, for example?

R Kelly- he writes diddies not songs. Singing is not remarkable. The only jerk that could use the word URANUS in a sexual love song and expect to be taken seriously.

Diana Ross- Berry Gordy had to be having sex with her to think that she could sing.

Janet Jackson- I actually like her, especically during the Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis production era, but damn.... she can't sing either. Good entertainer, but can't sing a lick.

OK>>>>>this one is going to get me sent straight to hell .....

Luther Vandross- great producer and song writer. Singer...BLAH!

Oh, and let's not forget..... Aaliyah. A good looking non entity ridiculously overpraised around here. Became a star by sucking R Kelly's dick. Should be filed with Janet in the list of airheads who prove that old cliche "It's not what you know, but who you know". wink

Probably the only one i would agree on is Elvis. What the Beatles did from 1965-1970 is still better than any artist has ever done in a small span of time, also with the limited things they had. Nowadays everyone has the benefit of everything and does shit with it.

I would have to add to this list, Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead, i just never could get into anything from the dead and barely anything from Floyd.

Though this isnt really the past i would have to add Radiohead, though they are a good band, they are way overrated. And the band Arcade Fire, holy shit, can we chill on the praise on that band already, its like another Amy Whinehouse, get real.

I agree with all your comments apart from Amy but we have only had two CD's from her and so far she not done anything wrong music wise...but maybe the drugs could end her career...have to wait and see it's a LH type question...? cool

Luther was an excellent writer. If anything, he is very underrated as a songwriter. "So Amazing" is one of the best ballads of the 80s.

Why is a puritanical, conservative, religious, judgmental virgin like yourself still cheering on a woman who has men pretending to jack off in her show, sings about dicks and coochies ALL THE TIME, and can't get anywhere near a photographer's studio without her clothes falling off? Is Janet acting out your fantasies or are you just good at turning a blind eye?

To each his own.... I love his production work, his voice is not remarkable in my opinion. I do understand that people love him and his voice. Just one girls opinion.

I'm not knocking your opinion. I was just wondering if you were familiar with his work (outside of the radio singles). I just think to say Luther was overrated is a little out of context considering how talented he was as a singer/writer/arranger. Nobody could do a song like Luther. Besides, his vocals on songs like "We Are Family", "Le Freak", "Glow of Love", "A House Is Not A Home" or even "Dance With My Father" were stellar (imo).

I just bought an album last Friday called "Bionic Boogie" by a disco band called Greg Diamonds. It had six tracks and Luther did lead vocals on all of them. He also did some work with Change also. I prefer his outside work much more than his solo work. As for his solo work, I mainly like his first two albums. Beginning in the late 80s, I couldn't stand his solo stuff.

Yeah, his outside work (Pre-Never Too Much) was more disco and uptempo.

I still think "THe Night I Fell In Love" is his best albums. It's a true r&b love album. When he did "Give Me The Reason", it pissed me off because that album was aimed at pop audiences (especially with the title track and Stop To Love). That's not saying that those albums were bad but he he was trying too hard to be pop.

Now, the work he did for others after Never Too Much was funky also. "Got A Date" from Dionne Warwick, "Instant Love" from Cheryl and "Jump To It" showed he was pretty funky still.

While writing this, it makes me wonder if Marcus Miller wrote the music for those uptempo songs and Luther came up with the lyrics.
