The whole concept of the "musical genius" (slash pop music icon) reeks of the past decades.

hooray for p2p killing even that concept.

gasp! (at Bjork on a couple of these lists). i bought Vespertine a few years ago and listened to it with headphones under my covers (like the reviewer suggested LOL) and was THOROUGHLY disappointed. so much so i haven't given her another chance. she might be a risk taker, but not a genius.

doesn't a genius break thru to the mainstream every now and then? (this comment has nothing to do with Bjork btw)

Some of you people use the term genius loosely. Plus there's a difference between lyrical genius and musical genius.

Timmy, do you mind telling me why MJ doesn't warrant an inclusion in your comprehensive list.
Because I'm strugling to understand why you've included some of these names but not him.

I consider MJ an entertaining genius in the realm of Sammy Davis, Jr. and Judy Garland. smile

He's more all-around, I guess. Plus I'm trying to escape the drama in here, lol. I just consider Michael a different kind of genius that ain't just musical.

Well you've got drama.
Why is Berry Gordy, Aretha Frankilin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Barry White included but not him.
You do know the dude writes songs? Great songs. I know you've heard him sing when he was 10.
The only reason I'm not listing a bunch other names including Marvin Gaye is because I've seen them play instruments.
Although, playing an instrument doesn't automatically mean you're a musical genius.
You have a right to your opinion but you're kind of disregarding him when you state he's just an 'entertainer'.
