The whole concept of the "musical genius" (slash pop music icon) reeks of the past decades.

gasp! (at Bjork on a couple of these lists). i bought Vespertine a few years ago and listened to it with headphones under my covers (like the reviewer suggested LOL) and was THOROUGHLY disappointed. so much so i haven't given her another chance. she might be a risk taker, but not a genius.

Some of you people use the term genius loosely. Plus there's a difference between lyrical genius and musical genius.

Because I'm strugling to understand why you've included some of these names but not him.

He's more all-around, I guess. Plus I'm trying to escape the drama in here, lol. I just consider Michael a different kind of genius that ain't just musical. [Edited 10/24/08 18:30pm] Well you've got drama. Why is Berry Gordy, Aretha Frankilin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Barry White included but not him. You do know the dude writes songs? Great songs. I know you've heard him sing when he was 10. The only reason I'm not listing a bunch other names including Marvin Gaye is because I've seen them play instruments. Although, playing an instrument doesn't automatically mean you're a musical genius. You have a right to your opinion but you're kind of disregarding him when you state he's just an 'entertainer'.
