MikeMatronik's Mixtape: " "Somos alquimistas, animistas...sobretodo electricistas" Foreword: I was given a second chance. So I decided to make a entire new selection and a new theme also. The previous mixtapes was made with some of my favorite covers. The problem is that it was made to impress the org, not to expose my taste. It was flawed. It was not not me, but the image I wanted people to see. I would like to thank sander and unkemptpueblo for the second chance
MIXTAPE: --> http://8tracks.com/Mikema...tricistas- <-- "Somos alquimistas, animistas...sobretodo electricistas" ("We are alchemists, animistics ...and above all electricians") 1. Depeche Mode - Pain That I'm Used To (Goldfrapp Remix) "There's a hole in your soul like an animal..." I'm a huge DM fan. I think this remix by Goldfrapp is very great. Why? It's make the song even more claustrophobic. It gives a darkness that original instrumentation of the album version lacked and puts the guitar upfront. I'm very found of this kind of depressing sounding remixes. 2. Yazoo - Nobody's Diary (Extended Version) "You can change the chapter you can change the book..." Yazoo are my favorite synth-pop group. Vincent's keys with Alison's soulful vocals give soul to the coldness of electronic music. There's a sense of static...because it ends...everything ends. The story always remais the same for me. 3. Fangoria - Elecricistas "Ven!Sube a mi nube..." ("Come!Climb unto my cloud...") Fangoria are an electro-pop duo from Spain (Olvido Gara aka Alaska and Nacho Canut) with a long history in the spanish musical scene (Alaska was in fact an Almodóvar girl in his first movie). They usually have dark, depressing and materialist lyrics mixed with happy synth/electronic sounds. The lyrics are cryptic. Some say it's about an drug induced fantasy. I see it was a calling...from one to another. This has to be one of my favorite songs ever. 4. The Gift - Driving You Slow (Live) "Someone loves you but I don't care for you" Well...a portuguese group that I adore (maybe the only group that I currently like from my country!) It's a crime that are not recognized internationally. Think early debut Björk meets Portishead. They are a successful story of a self made independent group free of large record company association. Sónia the lead singer has a great contralto voice. Hamsterhuey was exposed to them by moi once! 5. Hercules and Love Affair - You Belong (Radio Edit) "You belong...yes you belong (to him tonight!)" One of the best surprises of the last years in my opinion. Usually I don't go into the hype of the entire DFA records artists, but this really is excellent. Nomi on lead and Antony on the background like a killer whale in heat...in a early house intoxication sound orgasm. 6. Kylie Minogue - Rippin' Up The Disco "Raving on the dance floor..." What makes Kylie is that she doesn't aspire to change the world or charge 350 dollars for ticket. She's just Kylie, without premeditation. This song was a bonus track for the X LP. A dirty hard beat floor filler non-gay tune that may be the best track she has done this decade. I just don't get why this was left out of the album tracklist since it's single material. 7. Róisín Murphy - Slave To Love "We´re too young to reason...too grown up to dream" Róisin Murphy is ultimate diva. She has the class, the talent the voice, the coolness that would make a Madonna or Janet kill for. This is currently her double a-side single. A Brian Ferry cover redone in totally electronic explosion. Strangely Róisín strips Ferry's emotion and delivers a cold...full in apathy approach. 8. Kish Mauve - Lose Control (Kish Mauve Extended) "And the wheel is turning faster..." Well...the Kylie fans know about this song. Lose Control and 2 Hearts are 2 Kish Mauve songs/productions that Kylie recorded for the X LP. Strangely only 2 hearts was included on the album and Lose Control was banished to the Kylie leakage realm, making tons of K-fans playing in their iPods and wishing more songs from the sessions had leaked. Kish Mauve have released recently a maxi of Lose Control. I really like this song and Kish Mauve's songs (like I'm in love with a German film star for example...). I sense they will be big. The question: Why Kylie...why? 9. Robyn - Dream On "You won't be cut up, bleeding tonight" My favorite Robyn song. And since I am the org's biggest Robyn fan, I had to put her in the mix. This song rocks live. I was lucky to see Robyn open for Madonna in Lisbon. How cool is that? This song was originally a collaboration with Christian Falk...but fuck him! It's all about her...my beloved Robyn! About the lyrics: Fantastic and twisted...full of hope. Almost like a catholic prayer gone bad. 10. t.A.T.u. - Craving (I Only Want What I Can't Have) (Bollywood Mix) I am a t.A.T.u fan. Here...I said it! Shame the entire lesbian pr stunt ruined it all. I'm a sucker for their hi-nrg stuff. I adore their Lyudi Invalidy album. This one of the best songs they have done. It's a song about desire. This remix is a improvement from the album version. It is a mashup of Celtic sound with some stolen beats from a bollywood movie. The name of the mix is very misleading in my opinion. It's a great closer. THE END Just like Sinéad sang: "Thank you for hearing me..."

Yeah! The eighties are back!
And again, an (almost) all female compilation! Kick-ass opener, don't know much about DM, but they're darned moody. Like it. Will listen/review soon.

Better. Fun that your two tapes show off two sides of your character. This is the side I talk music with, I think.
Indeed a good opener; a song combining two of your faves.

OK Princess, I have arrived!
1 - Depeche Mode / A Pain that I'm used to - Interesting that you picked the word "claustrophobic". That is the perfect word I too, enjoy my feelings being crushed by music and that inescapable feeling is one I absolutely adore It's somewhat sobering to listen to this track considering the lead actually tried to commit suicide. I never really connected with Depeche Mode other than Reach out and Touch Faith. That lyric is so stellar! I really should go back and revisit their stuff I've started listening to this mix a few times now and have had to stop after the first couple of songs for various reasons, so now that I've given this song a few listens I feel familiar with this track enough to really get into the vibe of it and where it feels like a nicely worn jacket instead of something stiff and unworn. I love this song. Alison's vocals among this track make it even more outstanding than it is. 2 - Yazoo / Nobody's Diary - Who could not love Alison Moyet backed by New Wave Sensibilities??? She totally does not have a sparkly voice but she's like a hammer on snowflakes I love this song because really, the sound of it is hopeful but really it's a depressing song: Don't want to be a page in your diary. Just a memory…. Did you know that they weren't friends during their time as Yazoo? I heard a piece on Day to Day (NPR program) and Alison Moyet and Vince Clark were interviewed and they spoke about their time as Yaz(oo). Now that they are doing dates on a reunion tour, it's only now that they are discovering a friendship. Pretty wild considering how killer their music was You can hear the interview here: http://www.npr.org/templa...d=92871278 3 - Fangoria / Elecricistas I LOVE the mixture of organic and electronic instruments Sorry to mention her but that is why "Is this Desire" is my favorite PJ Harvey album! OK, I have heard the name before but thought they were American for some reason. I like the music but Is there a translation or should I just leave it at "Drug induced Fantasy"? This is sort of Lords of Acid This is where the title of your mix came from right? I think I hear the title in the lyrics. Am I right? 4 - The Gift / Driving You Slow I'm not into this guy's voice very much. Curious what it sounds like in the studio I think I'd need to hear the studio version for better effect. The crowd element is distracting on this This is my least favorite song on the mix. 5. Hercules and Love Affair / You Belong (Radio Edit) Funny how music ressurrects itself over and over. They are sampling Inner City! At the very least they were inspired by that track That was my shit when I was young! I love this song for the memories it sparked Is the singer in the background that guy Bjork duets with on Volta? Sure sounds like it You know what's interesting though, such overt homosexualty can't sell here in the US even if it's sugar pop. What a fuckin shame. "Whale in Heat" X Infinity 6 Kylie Minogue / Rippin' Up The Disco I am totally amazed STILL at the fact this is the same broad as the girl who sang the Locomotion remake from when I was a teen I mean she totally disappeared from the US music scene. Then "Can't Get You Out of My Head" dropped and I went Kylie Minogue? You mean she's alive?! Then I saw the video and went cuz that wasn't the innocent little locomotion girl I knew And then I find out that not only was she still alive but she actually had a career almost all that time she disappeared from the US charts I guess there is more to the world than the US eh? At first I really fought her and I fought her hard. I liked Can't get you out of my head but I just couldn't take her seriously. Thankfully I have some really great friends in this forum that kept telling me that I needed to check her out. I didn't know where to start and I bought Body Language and at first was like WTF? But it was just that I still had that holdout in my head and when I was able to chill the fuck out I really started to say Hey, I really like this! Hearing "You Make Me Feel" though, sealed the deal So I got hooked up with some B-Sides and singles, 70 of them and I found that a lot of that music is excellent! Of course with that quantity there are bound to be average songs but I'm pretty happy I've become a Kylie Fan! This is a great great song I don't know about it not being gay though 07 - Roison Murphy / Slave to Love FUCKING. OBSESSED You should have seen/heard my reaction when this song began THIS. SONG. IS. PERFECT On first listen I knew this was going to be my favorite and I'm right, nothing before or after, for me, touches this song I actually stopped your 8 track tape and played this over and over and over. I LOVE such dark musical territory. The way this song begins…. At first it sounds like the whipping blades of a helicopter but then when she starts singing the lyrics remind of me an angel, on the way to save someone and suddenly the beat isn't helicopter blades but beating angel wings And this song is the perfect example of what I tried to say about the inclusion of the electronic songs in my mix. That Electronic music IS MUSIC!. Listen to the original and then tell me how the hell the electronic guru came up with that music and how Roison came up with that vocal approach? This interpretation takes incredible vision. Swear to God it just makes this song even better! This song is sheer Genius Seriously, I am missing something. EDUCATE ME! She was with Moloko right? The only thing I remember them from is that "Fun For Me" song. Is that her singing in that song? It's a guy right? I never checked them out because I tend not to gravitate to male voices in music. So I never ever looked into any of their stuff because I thought a man fronted and I didn't care for it. Sinisterpentatonic said I was late on her and he's right I had no idea! Though I should have trusted you since you've been touting her in this forum for a long time So when she went solo I had no idea because I didn't follow the band and didn't know she was from it. Now I am going to check out her solo stuff (and moloko if you recommend something)!!!! Love the subdued tone of her voice how clinical it sounds next to the pulsating music. Also love the picture you chose to couple this song Seriously, I canNOT get over this song! (don't tell anyone but so far this is tied for my favorite song in the entire span of this project! ) OK, I just watched the video and it's her singing! I totally thought it was a man! Whatever effect they have on her voice, me-no-likey I do love the background oohs and ahhs though I can't believe this whole time I thought it was a dude singing this song (Moloko that is) ! 8 - Kish Mauve / Lose Control More education!!!!! Are you saying she wrote this for Kylie? Is she a writer only or is she an act all her own? This is a killer song and I can see how Kylie would be an intelligent choice for covering this. I would prefer a more cutting voice on this track but I love the way it unfolds and vamps musically from 2:38 on: It's the money, it's the money, it's the money….. 09 - Dream On / Robyn Glad to see her come back. Always thought it was a shame she slipped off the radar after her self titled album. Show me Love was such a great pop song I haven't listened to her newest album yet and I'm not so sure how I feel with her going electro vs more vocal pop. This is a sparkly sweet and cute song. Very fitting for this mix 10 - T.A.T.U. / Craving OK Lucy, you need to splain about the Lesbian PR Stunt! How different is the Bollywood Mix to the original? Is it musically the same without the Indian sounding effects in the background? I LOVE her voice. Not so plussed on the chorus but otherwise I love the warmth of this song. I fucking love this mix. And I'm not saying that to snap you out of your tantrum either! I. LOVE. THIS. MIX This is what I originally expected from you so that other mix was such a surprise. Looking back it was a good thing muxtape crashed because otherwise we would have been robbed of this unique approach. I love that you did an all electro pop mix. I'm working on a few mixes in this vein myself I'm glad you got to do 2 mixes to show both sides like Herman said. This mix is from the master teacher [Edited 10/24/08 16:37pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy, u cannot imagined the effect it had reading your review. I hadn't smiled with happiness all week and you made me smile.
To answer ur questions: 1 - It's called Personnal Jesus and not reach out and touch faith. Goldfrapp also remixed a DM song called Halo...and it's even darker! 2 - Nobody's Diary reminds me of Cinnie. (I can't disclose much, but eh knows what I mean...Shame I will never a page on his diary) 3 - I got the title of the mix from a verse of the song. 4 - It's not the easiest song of their catalog. The vocalist is a female. 5 - Yep, it's Antony Hegarty of the Bjork duet and the mastermind of Antony and the johnsons...Get their The Lake EP...Herman shared it with me and I became a fan of them 6 - Download Kylie's Impossible Princess album. Madonna stole some ideas for Ray of light from it. It's a dark electronic masterpiece...and her biggest flop. Flop-pop is the best imo. 7 - About Moloko orgnote herman...he's the expert on them. Get Roisin's second LP...called Overpowered. Check a video called Movie star... keywords: Divine...john walters... 8 - They produced and wrote some songs for Kylie's X. Kylie only released from the session "2 hearts" 9 - Robyn did not disapear. She still released albums here in Europe. 10 - The album version is produced by Trevor Horn. This remix is very similar to the album version. It's more orchestral Thank you for listening me... [Edited 10/24/08 16:22pm]
