Thanks for the comment... lol

This is how people can sometimes forget how famous other people are especially compared to someone's favorite artist. I love MJ but really, does being really popular make any sense? Everybody's REAL famous, no one can determine how famous someone is, especially all over the world. And if someone don't know some celebrities, this is why the internet is good for. Google Oprah and Ali in Europe, lol.

Yes Michael Jackson is the most famous person on the planet. Living in the UK and going on my experience there are many who dont know people like shaq, jordan, oprah etc. I reckon the most famous living person is MJ followed by bush, bin laden, blair, ali, stallone, swarznegger, madonna. smile

Who cares???
This is the kind of post started by MJ lovers
to bolster their love for him.
What a waste of time.
Lets say MJ is the most famous - whats the point?
Why ask who is the most famous?
Does it make you feel importatnt when people agree with you?
MJ lovers seem to need constant reassurance that MJ is a great guy.
They seem like a very insecure lot - which is understandable when
you worship a once great star who has become a freak.

Very true.

Fans need constant reassurance about his record sales & fame. It's like that's what they hang onto now, when in the larger scheme of things it doesn't mean much. Having said that MJ is probably the most famous and most infamous person in the world.

Well, I live in Europe and travelled to Africa. One thing is sure: Oprah is unknown there. She's massive in the US, but as a US TV host, she's nobody outside the US. I've never seen her being discussed on TV, press,... except when she endorsed Obama, and that was because of Obama.
She's definitely not a famous celebrity outside the US. Just like Soccer players like Beckham or Maradona are huge internationaly but not in America.
To me, the biggest global celebrity is definitely MJ, followed by Madonna, Britney. Among famous persons worldwide, I guess Ben Laden is among them on top.

Michael is huge in Europe, more so than Oprah, but Oprah is well known where I'm at, which part of Europe are you in?

Yes Michael is the most famous living person on the planet. And I agree, Arnie and Madonna are definetly up there. I think you need some kind of unique image to become really famous and well known for a long time, which is why I don't agree with people like Oprah, George Bush, Michael Jordan etc, there too, well...normal and everydayish

I don´t think that MJ fans are any worse than MJ haters. If fans have the need to praise him than haters need as much (maybe even more) to diss him.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Oprah might be well known in the US but she has no relevance in Europe. I only know her through her interviewes with MJ and Madonna and George Michael.

The topic is a bit stupid but i'd like to bring my knowledge of some countries and add that some names mentionned are not known at all.
I've been travelling extensively in South America, Africa and the arab world and I can say that Oprah, Shaq, George Michael, Madonna and even Britney Spears are unknown in some areas. Now coming from France, Ophrah, Shaq are not popular figures.
Also i'd like to mention that the Beatles are not known in some countries(Egypt, Mauritania for example). I do not know who is the most recognisable face on this planet but definitely not the names mentionned above.
As for Michael Jackson, he is probably one of the most famous person along with Bob Marley or Elvis Presley.

I'm from France as well, and Oprah and Shaq are not even remotely famous. Theyare completely unknown.
Now, as a person with arab origins, and as a ussual traveler in North Africa, i can say Britney and Madonna are very big among young people, as well as Eminem and 50 Cent.
