I see what you mean about the remix of "Come, Sing Me A Song" that was on the comp I sent you, but I like this one more because all the effects makes it sound more retro-60s which is what I'm very much into at the moment. I had no idea the song would have such an impact on you! omg

Yes. I am hopelessly romantic and you have no idea how ferociously I love when I love someone. I totally identify with the idea of being nothing without true love. I have felt that way towards my lovers, but they have never felt that way about me bawl

Regardless, I still believe in such romanticized ideas nod

hug Wow! I had a sense of it, but this allows me to truly grasp your taste in music! biggrin

All the songs are powerful, rich, and complex. I love the darkness of several, your predilection for strings and orchestral arrangements biggrin, the dissonance, all containing a traditional core of basic rock and roll, heavy metal, and punk.

Can't explain it, but when it hit Te Quiero Mucho, I was in tears. bawl (my favorite on first listen)

Some GREAT music in there and I will listen again.

Sexton's mix, to me, is too fabricated. To me it seems me that he has made such a huge effort to put ten obscure songs sung by women in a mix. I can hardly imagine that this is a mix one could listen to everyday....

Did you even get past the third song? Several of the songs are accessible, catchy and poppy. I don't see how Sexton's mix is any more obscure or "fabricated" than any of the other mixes we've had here.

In the Masher's defense, I think he is alluding to the music and not the actual concept? I think he looks for listening ease, and to me these weren't hard songs to listen to, but maybe he likes more sellable sounds?

1. "The Hues Of Longing" - Mors Syphilitica (from the LP Feather and Fate)

While I dislike operatic voices, somewhere in the chorus it does get to me. Mmh, not sure on this track.

2. "Denn Die Toten Reiten Schnell" - Faith and the Muse (from the LP Evidence of Heaven)

I can see the gothic side of it, but the absence of soaring guitars and the overtly classical elements (LOVE the outro, very Carl Orff like!) does push the limits of my idea of the genre. The only downside would be the male vocals, they put me off, just a bit. Really like the tension in this track. I never knew I would like 'gothic rock'! wink

3. "Cage In A Cave" - Rasputina (from the LP Oh Perilous World)

You have probably heard of Apocalyptica. I wonder what you think of them...

As for this track. I love how they still maintain that pop-format and sound, whilst using quite the bizar instrumentation. This is actually quite accessible for such a weird combo! Like this one!

4. "Eternal Flame" - Joan As Police Woman (from the LP Real Life)

She was Jeff Buckley's girlfriend? Wow. I was intrigued by her previous album, but her new album pushed me over the hill. This track proves to me she is the real deal and I should be getting some music of her. Love the vocals! They do remind me of Jeff, but also Prince with all those multi-layered, wave-like vocals. Great!

5. "Come, Sing Me A Song" - Sing-Sing (from the LP Sing-Sing and I)

Nice little ditty.

6. "God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)" - El Perro Del Mar (from the LP El Perro Del Mar)

Aha, here we have the sulky strings I expected of you! Cute Gwen Stefani like pouting accent. This song really gets me. Sweet, very sweet. I'm sorry about naming Gwen, since it's actually nothing like her. This is such a sweet song! I expected some heavy guitars and over the top strings from you, Sexton. And look what we have here: sulky sweetness! lol Only in Sweden!

7. "I Like A Boy In Uniform (School Uniform)" - The Pipettes (7" single)

Haha! So much fun! I expected some chuckles at the end of this track! Great one!

8. "Te Quiero Mucho" - Naty Botero (from the LP Naty Botero)

What?!? lol I don't see the comparison between her and Kylie. This is vibrant and not synthesized. Love this! Could have been on my mix! wink

9. "Gary's Song" - Alice Smith (from the LP For Lovers, Dreamers & Me)

This is hitting close to home. That makes it a bit harder to please me as well. Huh, this track changes so much along the way. I gotta check her out, some more investigation is needed. I hear some Alicia Keys in her voice. Does anyone else hear this too?

10. "Scratch Your Name" - Noisettes (from the LP What's the Time Mr. Wolf?)

THIS is what I expected! Love her voice and how she uses it, screeching, singing, flirting, frightening, hating, loving, angry and tender all the same! Woohoo, tear me up girl!

Great one Sexton, you stunned me! Sorry I wasn't here sooner!

When reading Bierman's replies I expected some far fetched, weird, inaccessible, overwrought, overthought mix. But no, it was quite fun and easy. Well, except the opener I guess. lol

My fave. This is actually quite hard. While musically nothing like my usual sonic surrounding I liked Faith and the Muse, the Pipettes and the Noisettes a whole lot, but I think I'll go with the one that's most likely to join my collection, which is:

Joan as Polic Woman.

Thanks! woot!

Apocalyptica is like the male version of Rasputina. lol Their sound is more metal influenced of course, but there's one song I really like by them called "Path Vol 2" with Sandra Nasic from Guano Apes on vocals. That I like that song the most shouldn't be a surprise. lol

The first two goth tracks had many people scratching their heads. Maybe I should make a gothic rock 101 mix for everyone.

Oh no, what have I gotten myself into? lol Do you and Supa want a stripped-down, bare bones 10 great songs by ten great artists mix or something a little more comprehensive?

I was never really a metalhead. I have some goth metal and black metal albums, but I'd be unqualified to make a metal 101 mix. Lilgish is the metal expert here I think.
