You listen to a lot of women too, don't you? I think the comp you sent me was at least 50/50. Listening to women is second nature for us. Nothing strange about it at all. smile

I think it was mostly women, unless you count robot voices as male tease
yeah I do prefer the female voice nod

Interestingly, and you know this, but I think we are the only 2 acts in this gig that had no men in our mixes lol

1. "The Hues Of Longing" - Mors Syphilitica - Loved this right away. And THANK YOU for the lyrics on this song because, my God there is so much soul searching that can be done in every. single. lyric! Gorgeous imagery, invoked by the simple act of nature mushy Very very comforting nod First thing I thought when I heard this was Dusty Trails, which is the Keyboardist from Luscious Jackson, Vivian Trimble, and Josephine Wiggs formerly of the Breeders. It just reminded me of how comforting that whole album is. Want to hear more of this band nod

2. "Denn Die Toten Reiten Schnell" - Faith and the Muse - The Goth world is one of my most neglected and least explored boxed This stroked my vampiric sensibilities nod

3. "Cage In A Cave" - Rasputina I. am. a. history. freak! lol Heard the name Rasputina but this is the first thing I've heard by her/them. Now I got to check out Thursday Christian's Father's Mutiny! Very Rock Opera, which can be annoying but I dig this chick's voice so all is forgiven smile

4. "Eternal Flame" - Joan As Police Woman On first glance I thought this was Joan Jett lol I was just shocked that this was her! lol Then I read your little write up. Whew! whew Just absolutely lovely. Again, all about the voice and the arrangement is supreme heart

5. "Come, Sing Me A Song" - Sing-Sing NO. YOU. DIDN'T! Loves got a hold on me and there's nothing that I couldn't be without your love bawl exclaim exclaim bawl I loved the Sing Singles when you sent it to me but this song grabbed my nuts and wouldn't let go! I was having eargasms galore on this track and I even cried that is just how much I love this song!!! Seriously, you have no idea how hard I bawled on that shit and for a long time too lol

Such a simple simple song, yet evoking all manners of flourish clapping You do not know the shocks of pleasure the first time I heard the horns break through at 1:23. I was already a mess and that just escalated shit lol I do prefer the version that you sent without the flourish during the chorus because the vocal delivery really is enough to convey the message nod Just a little something is lost for me not hearing the purity of their voices during that part of the song. But just excellent you included this!!!! woot! I had no idea you would smile hug

6. "God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)" - El Perro Del Mar I still have 4 songs to go but I think this will probably be my least favorite track on the mix. Not complex enough lol Yes, I was right. My least favorite.

7. "I Like A Boy In Uniform (School Uniform)" - The Pipettes Of course, I loved this lol They're a white version of Cibo Mato! biggrin

8. "Te Quiero Mucho" - Naty Botero Spanish Rap?! omfg I guess it's a good thing I know what the title means cuz I really don't need to try and figure this song out lol Love it smile

9. "Gary's Song" - Alice Smith You beat me to the punch! mad But I didn't choose this Alice Smith Track mr.green Sorry, but I'm going to save my Alice Vamping for my thread hmph! razz One of the most outstanding tracks on her album for sure. Love the idea of her walkin down the street and just COMMANDING SHIT LEFT AND RIGHT! worship And yet, she's sensible enough to ask what the hell happens if they start that ball rolling. What a sensible broad! clapping

10. "Scratch Your Name" - Noisettes

Her voice reminds me of Sia Furler nod Never knew Sia had any edge! lol This is a great great track. I want to own that album right. NOW!

I am going to stay away from the songs I know from this mix and choose "The Hues of Longing" as my favorite. You crack me up, it's not a song about vegetation, but I guess it is lol This mix project is something staggering for me, as you will see in my presentation and it wouldn't have happened the way it did without your input and suggestion. I love you very much for being a part of one of the most amazing things to happen to me this year mushy hug Oh yeah, I owe Anx too but considering I'm missing all my front teeth and scratch my ass with a stick through my overalls, I don't know if he'll ever know lol wink

Oh yeah, wink

wink

You write the most incredible, heartfelt reviews! hug

When I saw that you picked Alice Smith for your mix, I started to sweat a little. At least we didn't choose the same song. lol

I see what you mean about the remix of "Come, Sing Me A Song" that was on the comp I sent you, but I like this one more because all the effects makes it sound more retro-60s which is what I'm very much into at the moment. I had no idea the song would have such an impact on you! omg

I admit my description of the Mors Syphilitica song could have been more specific. lol All the lyrics to the songs from their last album used to be on their website, but when they broke up, they took their site down and now those lyrics can't be found anywhere! mad I happened to have the the words to "Hues Of Longing" only because I printed it out from their site years ago. I wish I had done it for all the songs from that album. My eyes literally teared up the first time I heard that song. I had all their previous albums which were more death-rock/goth, but they really softened their sound on their final album and the results were lovely. cloud9

See this is the thing, you love boobs and so do I. But for very very VERY different reasons lol Even though we are polar opposites when it comes to them, we both have a high regard that is reverential to the female artist smile I love that you can love the physical female and still get what it is females are saying. I don't love the physical but relate to females on a very primal level nonetheless. Your mix is awesome hug

This is like my dream mixtape love
I'm finding it impossible to pick a 'favorite' song because there's so much variation here, and I feel like I'm digging it all

1. "The Hues Of Longing" - Mors Syphilitica - At first I thought I wasn't going to like this song cause the vocal arrangments were reminding me of a Catholic school sing-a-long, but as a listened more (and read the lyrics) this really grew on me alot, and I ended up listening to it twice

2. "Denn Die Toten Reiten Schnell" - Faith and the Muse - Good Lord this track nearly made me wet my pants (in a good way). It sounds like it would be played by a vampire in a really good horror movie. I can't get enough of this and it reminded me that I need to get back to The Vampire Chronicles

3. "Cage In A Cave" - Rasputina- In all honesty, a friend recently recommended Rasputina to me and when I heard one of their songs I immediately wanted to send you an orgnote about them, but of course you already know about their brilliance! I love this song, even though I'm not familiar with the historical references

4. "Eternal Flame" - Joan As Police Woman- I remember reading alot about Joan as Police Woman a little while ago, but I never got around to checking out this album...I missed out! I love how this whole song is performed. So haunting and melancholy sounding, but very beautiful

5. "Come, Sing Me A Song" - Sing-Sing- I really enjoy the breezy feel of this song. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm swirling in a cloud of joy (as corny as that may sound)

6. "God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)" - El Perro Del Mar- This has a sweet 60's sound and I like the simplicity of it, but it seems like its missing something

7. "I Like A Boy In Uniform (School Uniform)" - The Pipettes- What can I say? You sold me on the Pipettes a while ago, and for me this song is pure audio Prozac! biggrin

8. "Te Quiero Mucho" - Naty Botero eek eek eek Gawd!!! This song drop-kicked my ASS!! I had to listen to it 5 times in a row! I loooove this and I need this album now dancing jig

9. "Gary's Song" - Alice Smith- By far one of my favorite Alice songs, if only for the contrast in sound between the sassy, cool, funky verses juxtaposed with the smooth yet, yearning sound of the chorus

10. "Scratch Your Name" - Noisettes- You can't go wrong with The Noisettes! She's got a great unique voice, the message of the song is really cool, and the actual music is rockin. I love this band!

I think this was the first mixtape, that I've listened to all the way through multiple times. Nice job! smile

Thanks Richard! hug I know from the sneak peak I took that I'll be equally impressed with your mix.

There's nothing hotter to me than seeing a woman onstage playing guitar and killing it. Maybe that makes me a male groupie. lol But seriously, I'm always interested and fascinated with what female artists have to say and even more importantly, how they say it. There's an intangible there that I totally don't get with men. A friend once told me that the reason I listen to female artists so much is because there's a woman inside me trying to get out. confused lol

Another fan! woot!

That entire Faith and the Muse album rules. It's a great mix of dark, classical and rock sounds. Highly recommended of course.

I felt the same way when I first heard Naty Botero! I saw the video for this song first on the Spanish mun2 channel and immediately had to find out who this woman was. I searched in some dark corners to get the CD since it hadn't been released in the states at the time, but now it's available on iTunes. It's a little like M.I.A. & Santogold at times.

Thanks a lot for listening!

Yes I did, I have heard each mix so far but I haven't been very active commenting on them. I am not used to talk a lot about music or putting it down in words, neither am I good at it. I either enjoy music or I don't. I liked your mix, Moloko, Dzihan & Kamien, Rae & Christian and Herbert standing out. These are artists I follow.
Sexton's mix, to me, is too fabricated. To me it seems me that he has made such a huge effort to put ten obscure songs sung by women in a mix. I can hardly imagine that this is a mix one could listen to everyday....but hey, that's me and it's all good if one can! wink

My mix will be on in a month's time and I will try to put songs in it that I actually enjoy a lot and listen to a lot, I will not try to make the most obscure mix possible.....I'll leave that to others!

abierman gave my mix an "F". sad

Not that I expected everyone to love it, but that you thought it was the worst one so far is surprising. I will disagree about it being fabricated. It didn't take a huge effort to put this together at all. About 70% of my collection consists of female artists. These are the ones I listen to. Every day. And the mix can't be that obscure if half the people that posted knew some of the artists already. But that's okay. It's not your thing. I can understand that.

i don't have a problem with people presenting obscure stuff in their mix, i acutally welcome it. it wouldn't be as fun if i knew all the songs. and the mixes are somewhat designed/fabricated to expose us to new sounds. i'm sure there will be some concept behind your mix even if it's just to give us an idea of what you like. wink

oh. i totally understand not wanting to review every mix. i have a problem with articulating sound and wasn't looking forward to it. lol despite that, i still did it because IMO it's always nice to hear someone else's perception of the same song, but that might just be the geek in me.

can't wait to hear your's, i'll be sure to keep my thoughts to myself. lol wink

The vast majority of my collection, and I mean majority is female artists. I have given my comps out to folks and I came to realize that much of what my mixes are about are basically things I'm feeling and things I want to say and it is always females that manage to find the exact way to speak their heart on love. They always manage to lay their wrath down completely as well. I don't relate to the male perspective at all.
