Where the HELL was the summer song this year?

As a further sign of the complete decline of popular music as we know it, there was nothing that could be considered a classic "summer song". Sure there were a few hits, that "Bleeding Love" song or Katie Perry's tune, but nothing that just dominated the airwaves. You know that song that comes on when you're at the pool or beach that just makes you go "Yeah, that's the jam right there!" Maybe there will never be another song like that again as pop music has become so fragmented and individualized that now a universal anthem is almost unheard of.

I like IPODs and Sirius and all that just as much as the next person but it used to be cool when we all had a same tune to sing.

On the r&b side, I would have to say that this summer's song is "Heaven Sent" and "I Remember" from Keyshia Cole. I like both songs, but I miss the songs that had a summer feel.

PREACH!

Man, I miss those days... must be gettin' old... I love digital music too but there is a sense of disconnect now that we're all involved in our own little ipodian worlds...

I don't accept Katy Perry's song as the summer hit of 2008, just because every radio format owned by the same company picked it up.

Everyone I talk to is tired of hearing it and never loved it in the first place.

I myself feel like there was never really an "it" song this year.

Maybe Rihanna or Chris Brown will come close to that, and I think Madonna should have deserved to have a summer hit.

Now i feel like i need to come out and create music. I don't even want to be famous because i don't like that kind of attention from strangers. but to save music. I would come out with a classic album to save pop music.

cause im tired of this dry music, i haven't been able to listen to the radio in so many years is going on 4years now

LMFAO, look at Ted Nugent try to play this song. He is such an overrated guitarist - a hack, really.

I didn't get a sense that there was a big cross stational mega hit this summer shrug
I mean think about Umbrella (ella, ella, eh, eh, eh) from last year
whether you like Rhianna or not you gotta admit that it was a huge summer hit
If you will, so will I

I think it also deserved to be played like crazy... speaking of "crazy", gnarls barkley owned summer of `06 and I never got tired of hearing that song.

GottaLetitgo is right, we don't have (a worthy) summer song this year.

The summer song in the UK right now is Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris "Dance Wiv Me." It's a #1 hit currently.

MORE PROOF that I'm on the wrong damn continent.

As many times as Lollipop from lil Wayne been played, I thought that was supposed to be the "summer" hit . . . .but personally, I vote for Estelle's American boy . . . that one always puts me in a good upbeat mood

I must be getting old but that's just fine because I really don't keep up with the current hit singles and does that I have heard are so shallow in beats and lyrics ("I Kissed A Girl '08", "Lollipop", etc.) that it doesn't matter.

That vintage synth at the 3:00 mark sounds like some Yaz schitt ("Don't Go").
