Overall, I guess I would not put these songs on my ipod. Some songs are great, but they do not flow. There's no balance. Also in terms of thematic, escape is usually associated with energic songs, not overtly melancholic tunes.

Still I give an 8/10 for the ecletic mix

Is funny you say it does not flow; to my ears it flows perfectly. I love how things sound differently to others.

Valgeir Sigurðsson // A Symmetry - Beautiful! I remember you starting a thread about this person, but being a typical xenophobic American, his name scared me away from sampling anything. I was very surprised!

PJ Harvey // The Wind - I already own this song and even though it's on one of my least fave PJ albums, the song is still very good. And this is exactly what I imagined when inserting a PJ song into an electronic mix.

Colder // Confusion - Not Bad. I like the drum pattern the most. Not as appealing as the other Colder songs I've heard ("To The Music", "Wrong Baby"), but still pretty cool.

Broken Social Scene // Feel Good Lost Reprise - This is more like an interlude to me than a song. There is a nice ambient/ethereal feel to it.

The Cocteau Twins // Alice - Awesome! I have this song too (on Lullabies To Violaine, Vol. 2), but I totally didn't remember it! How is that possible for a song so amazing? Is it really a duet with Dead Can Dance? I didn't know that.

Antony & The Johnsons // The Lake - Like Lammastide, I'm not a fan of Antony Hagerty's voice, but it sounds okay here. And I like the sparse piano too.

The Knife // We Share Our Mothers’ Health - Definitely one of the better songs on Silent Shout. "Like A Pen" was on an earlier version of my mix tape. Great selection.

Nina Hagen Band // Naturträne - I was impressed by the beauty of this track! Like most people, my only exposure to Nina is "New York, New York" and I expected most of her work to be very grating which this definitely was not.

Røyksopp // What Else Is There? (featuring Karin Dreijer) - Another song with Karin from The Knife! I've heard Røyksopp songs here in there, but this is the first one that really made me take notice.

Radiohead // The Amazing Sound Of Orgy (non album track) - I would probably be a bigger Radiohead fan if the first thing I heard by them wasn't "Creep". Amnesiac is an album I always intended to get because I heard it was sort of Kid A part II (the only Radiohead album I own). Maybe I will now even though this song is only on the "Pyramid Song" single.

I think the entire mix flows together very well and has an otherworldly feel making the "Plotting An Escape" title very apt. Great compilation of songs!

Thanks for that review. Like I said to Mike, the way how music flows is in the ear of the beholder. To me it is an easy thing, as I love all these songs.

And when I started compiling, I had two choices; or make something close to my heart, with artists/songs people already knew, but maybe not songs they would be familiar with or make something really obscure, but when trying that, it felt really wrought and show offish, so I went for the know.

And in SOME cases, like Sexton and Mike, I knew I'd be including songs they would already familiar with, just because our musical tastes run aside the same paths or because I have been hipping certain artists on threads, like The Knife and Valgeir Sigurðsson.

But that was an 'oh well' kind of thing. Like said before; I had a lot of fun compiling and I can't WAIT for the others, as we have an ecclectic bunch of music lovers.

Supa is mysteriously absent from this thread.

Favorite song - My first reaction was to Broken Social Scene. Anything that instantly makes me want to cry is a keeper! But I nominate The Knife "We Share Our Mother's Health" for the mix off favorites! So quirky and disjointed, just fantastic like a Frankenstein But now I have heard Nina Hagen's Naturetrane and that is my pick. ABSOLUTELY!!!

I respect, admire and worship that kind of expression. Even if I can't understand what she is actually saying. I think with this crowd you won't find the resistance to the song you initially felt you might. I could listen to it a thousand times and it speaks to me in ways so interesting and vital considering the language barrier. What a fantastic fucking song! Did I ever tell you, or did you read, about my seeing Nina in an LA bar? It was hilarious

This mix has made me realize some of my musical limitations. Not that I don't have an eclectic collection, and not that I don't love everything that is on here but I only had one of these songs and I realize how much my musical world still needs expanding. I am familiar with 5 of the artists, but only 2 of whom I have their works.

This is something I will be listening to many many times, especially alone. Thank you for starting this thing off right. I love your beauty
