No Steve Perry . It looks like Journey is going through lead singers these days like toilet paper.

from amazon.com

>>>2008 brings the album Revelation from Journey. Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums)--are proud to introduce fans all over the world to their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda ('pin-eh-da'). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who parted ways with the band earlier this year after stepping in for Steve Augeri, who had to leave the band in 2006 for medical reasons. <<<

Oh,I guess there's no reason to get excited then confused I wouldn't buy a Journey album without Steve Perry.I hate when these groups lose their lead singers and they hire second-rate "soundalikes" disbelief

They're touring this summer with Cheap Trick and Heart, btw.

No Steve Perry . It looks like Journey is going through lead singers these days like toilet paper.

I understand your reluctance. As a long time Journey/Perry fan, I really had a hard time with Steve Augeri. I tried to get into the two albums he did with them, but it just wasn't working. When I found out about Pineda and how Schon found him (on YouTube), I found it rather intriguing. I found some clips of them playing on Ellen a couple weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised how good Pineda's voice is. Yes, he does sound like Perry and no one can replace THE voice. That being said I liked Pineda's voice so much that I took a chance on the album (Revelation)... and I haven't stopped listening to it. I haven't liked a Journey album this much since I was in high school (Raised on Radio). Great songs and a fantastic tenor voice. Pineda can seriously sing! Some long time fans may never give Journey or Arnel Pineda the time of day, but I think they're missing out. Besides, I can't be the only one that's a bit tired of waiting for Perry to release something... anything, Journey or solo. It seems like Pineda's brought some life and energy back to the band. Surprisingly, I even enjoy the second disc of re-recorded Journey classics. I may not sway anyone here to give Revelation a chance, but I really feel like it's your loss. Meanwhile, I'll be rockin' out with a "white man's overbite" like I'm 16 again.

I would see Cheap Trick and Heart (the original members of Cheap Trick I assume and the Wilson sisters ARE Heart, so nothing bad about that line up) but I would skip Journey...if they came on last, I would leave early!

Soulalive....Donna just out of the Top 100. Not unexpected, I guess, but 40K in this many weeks isn't bad. I just wish "Stamp" would have made a minor impact on the pop charts.

I'm really amazed that Janet is no longer in the Top 200. New Amerykah, released the same day is hanging on.

I think Janet still sold better overall.

Not sure if Badu is attempting another single from the album (other than "Honey", it's not single friendly...but "Honey" is sooo good that no wonder it still gets played). Unfornately, I don't think Janet saying "I'm not getting any help from the label" is excatly promotion of the album itself, so no second life/chance for it. A tour might help but ulimately it takes hit songs and/or lots of good press/feedback/buzz to sell albums. That Robert Plant/Allison Kruas thing doesn't excatly have "hits", but it should sell over a million in the next few weeks. Not bad. Not everyone is selling like they used to, but there are some surprisingly good numbers in totals out there.

I think if Cyndi were on a smaller label, she would do better. Donna Summer is out selling her! And it's not like she is cranking out hit singles and is beloved by the kids. If anything, Cyndi has an in with more young people becuase her song was in "Napolean Dynamite" (and kids probably know her eigties hits more than they know Donna's mostly seventies songs).

Donna and Cyndi's singles are in the Top 10 on the Dance Club charts , so there may be hope if one of those can cross over.

Im overall disappointed in Sony's efforts on Cyndi's record

Yeah, I think Jan definitely did better sales-wise. I wasn’t comparing them record for record but I just remember Erykah’s came out on the same day and was surprised she was still hanging on especially since she’s released nothing—not even a little underground video—post-Honey.

I never look at the charts but since they’re always posted here I started getting curious. I think I’ll avoid them again so I don’t have to see stuff like Cyndi debuting in the hundreds. sad

Did Cyndi do any promotion for the CD? Other than the org, I haven't heard of her doing any performances on TV anywhere. Can't sell CD's without promotion, ya know. wink

Yeah I noticed that.I was hoping that 'Crayons' would reach a wider audience but in the end,it's only us diehards who got into it.That's okay though. It's just great to have a new Donna Summer CD.I hope the low sales doesn't discourage her from making more music.I'd hate to wait another 17 years for a new album lol

It doesnt matter what kind of PROMO either her or Donna would do, the labels, radio and tv are all catering to teens. Sure they can bullshit you into saying they play everything, but everytime i turn on the video stations all i see is Chris Brown and Rihanna doing the same old song and dance. Now im not saying DONT play them, but open up the formats, open up the playlists to more than 5 artists. Until the playing field is EQUAL dont HOPE for better than a 100,000 from the older veteran artists.

I'm really amazed that Janet is no longer in the Top 200. New Amerykah, released the same day is hanging on.

I predicted it

Janet is like Madonna, if she doesn't make hits, she's done...

Yeah I know, 15 weeks passed and she's selling less than 3,000 copies a week, terrible. And yes I know her label is also to blame, but let's not forget she had 4 singles sent to radio, and 2 videos... But oh well, maybe her next album will be better than just a collection of songs her label gave her to record. razz

Did Cyndi do any promotion for the CD? Other than the org, I haven't heard of her doing any performances on TV anywhere. Can't sell CD's without promotion, ya know. wink

Promo from the artist matters (if Janet did more that was focused directly on the album, it wouldn't hurt), but labels need to help pushing. Burgandy isn't doing a terrible job for Donna. She is getting lots of press through the net (stories and advertisements). She also has one of those promo videos (maybe about ten mintues long) where they play clips from the album and she talks about it. She doesn't have proper videos but she is singing some of the tracks in a studio setting and those have been pushed on the net (I also heard Target was playing some verision of this in their stores). Not sure if Cyndi is getting half that.

As for Cyndi and promo, she did the Howard Stern show, but that might get her attention but not excatly sell a dance CD! Also, she is on her True Colors tour (unless it didn't start yet)...maybe further proof that tours don't help sell albums?

MTV just debuted some show hosted by Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy....apparently, tweens think of this guy as some kind of personality) that featured new music video premieres and live performances. I caught most of it. It's the usual suspects (Pussycat Dolls, Death at the Disco, Snoop Dogg and some Euro indie dance pop senstation that has an Ipod ad) and tries waaay too hard by having a large audience screaming not just at the performance and whenever people try to talk....but during the music videos! Sounds like maybe MTV is trying to make up for years of terrible reality TV and ignoring most kinds of music and art(even pop art) in favor of making rich white bitches celebrites. Keep it simple, guys...just videos and VJs like back in the day!

Releasing 2 singles at once was a dumb ass idea since the label got scared and stopped all promotion when they didn't hit the charts after a week or so! Also, no remixes (that I remember). How could you tell those were singles?

Does anyone think Janet will really make another album with Def Jam after this? I think she might actually take that long break she needs and do some writing and thinking....JD has got to get out of the studio and the board room!

Well, in one point of view, now the only thing that matters about a single is that it's sent to radio. Because nobody buys the physical release and nobody watches MTV. I'm really not sure what more the label could have done about them actually. If the songs didn't catch on radio, then that's all...

No, I don't think she'll make an album with Def Jam, or at least not until the end of 2010. But she might try to get that Live Nation deal...

Pretty sad fng list.

There was a time when I would look in the back of rolling stone and actually see music by musicians that I dug.

The Weezer album come on, first 2 albums were fantastic, but downhill since.

Disturbed- falls under linkin park typr new metal which I fng hate

3 doors down... boring at best...

Usher and Chris brown, I just will never get it.

Since I hated on most.

so WHAT DID I BUY THIS WEEK:

Aimee Mann- smilers. so far so good. (her and Ryan adams should make babies, and maybe songwriting can be saved:

Elton John-Tumbleweed deluxe edition. This albums weakest track kills just about everything on the single charts these days.

Vampire Weekend. cool polyrhythmic stuff, a little annoying, but overall enjoyable.

and before you start with the old fart jokes.. I am only 31.....
Music is the best...

and we are still talking about Janet....

let dying dogs lie...

I know her label has issues with promo, but come on it's not like she is re writing the book.

I actually think the donna summer single is better than her feedback or whatever.

I am always amazed at the bleeding hearts orgers have for the jackson clan.

When they pull out an album as good as let's say REM's latest after have a down album, then we can talk.

good to see metal is still alive and selling decently well. I wouldn't label Disturbed like Linkin Park, those guys just suck...although I haven't really liked Disturbed's last album. The Sickness and Believe were awesome tho
