Sly or George? Gotta choose, gotta choose... (updated!)

i think i had told ya'll not too long ago that sly and the family stone were gonna be performing at first avenue next month...in fact, the concert's a week from today. i was seriously thinking about plopping down the $65 for a ticket to the gig, but then i found out about some other folks who were gonna be in town towards the end of may and playing the mainroom...

george clinton and parliament-funkadelic. omg

yep, just found out about it last night when i was looking around on first ave's website. i was like "awwww, MAN!" horns the tickets for george's show are only $25. wow. so now i'm like...i've never seen either of these cats live before and i really wanna go and see them both, but i'm gonna stick to buying just one ticket. for those of ya'll who have seen sly and/or george play live, who do ya'll think i should go and see? which is the better choice?

hmmm

This one would be a toss up for me.

Sly & The Family Stone:
Is Sly himself confirmed to appear?
If he is, will he truly appear?

George Clinton:
Which George Clinton show will you get.
I've seen a few and there's a definite lack of consistency.

Sorry to sound negative about both but that's just where it's at imo.

Based on the ticket price, I might opt for George.
In case things go badly, it'd be less of a financial hit on your pocket book.

i think i'd go with George too. even though he might have an off night his band usually picks up the slack.

that's what i'm thinking too...i don't wanna spend all that money just to see sly appear on stage for 2 minutes, then skitter off.

If George Clinton is the only act onthe bill you'll get a show of at least 2.5 -3 hours. George goes in and out for tunes, but he will definitely be there.

Sly's show seems to run 75 - 90 minutes with Sly appearing during the last 20 minutes.

lol yeah...it might be a hot mess when he's up here too, but it's a risk i'm willing to take. as much as i would love to see sly, that would've been a real expensive risk in comparison to george.

i'ma post the concert review for sly's show here this coming weekend, since the show's on friday.

One thing about George though, even when it's a hot mess, it's entertaining as hell. lol

I mean where else, outside of a nursing home, are you gonna see a man in his 60's wearing a diaper in public???? Worth the price of admission alone. lol

Shame on you for not going with Sly, sis... disbelief

Even in his current condition, I'd go just for the once in a lifetime opportunity to see him up close. Have a good time, though.

I saw George like 4 times, his band always saves him. Most of the times it's a good show, but I've only 'sat' through them the first 2 times (3 hours +)....

Now I don't feel the need to see him perform anymore.

You'll like it though!

Here's a review of 4/25 show

SLY is BACK; LONG LIVE SLY!!!

-----

Speechless.

We caught the Friday show in Anaheim.

Unreal.

I'm still in awe, can't do justice to a proper review right now,
but i'll try.

The curtain finally opened around 10:30 and there was SLY, front & center stage behind his keyboards, decked out in bondage boots, a plaid kilt with a bushy black mohawk. "Do you guys remember how to sing a simple song?" They busted into that, followed by Dance To the Music & Family Affair. Shit was so good, i got tears in my eyes. If Jerry Martini, Cynthia, & Sister Rose Stone sounded excellent, Sly's voice sounds just like the records, and seemed to be loving it up there. He joked that everybody made it to rehearsal but him "but i made to the gig, ha hahaha!" crowd went nuts. Let's see, they also did Stand, teasers of Hot Fun… and Don't Call Me… During Thank you… Sly changed it up a bit to say "thank you fallettinme B mice elf ONCE AGAIN.

At one point he said "okay, i'm going to the bathroom." I know i wasn't the only one thinking "alright then, good to see you SLY"… In his absence the band tore up Thank You…Africa. Then they Sly took us Higher & strolled through the whole building shaking hands and singing. He did a little bit of his new joint "i'm the real model, not the role model" which has a hip hop influence and had the crowd going.

The set lasted about an hour and ten minutes. I am still high from the experience. I had many chances to see JB before he left the planet, but never did. Seeing Sly in this triumphant return was mosdef one of the high marks in my 30+ years as a concert goer.

My good buddy Lamar from the PFunk One-Nation board. cool

Saw Sly last summer. As much as I live him, I gotta say, he sucked... BIG TIME confused

Saw a clip from Paris a few days after the performance he had here in Finland and he was in great form, so I guess it's really hit or miss.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

From things I've read, it sounds like Sly may have been a bit shy of getting back to owning the stage since his comeback last year. He can be forgiven having been out of the game such a loooong time though. I guess he's needed a bit of practice!
From the review a couple of posts above it sounds like he's finally getting his feet again hooray! If he's on stage performing for over an hour I'd be happy!
Unfortunately I may never get the chance to see Sly, being way downunder here sad

Save up and get the ticket to Sly too! There's alot to lose by not taking the chance IMO.

I wish I could foresee ever having the same opportunity as you!
