OK, I need to rant.

Back when she started, she had aspirations to be seen as some alt/punk chick, as her dyed hair, "vintage" T-shirts, crooked nose and seemingly defiant inability to sing were apparently supposed to lend her some "cred" and endear her to a hipper crowd than fans of her pop tart sister as the more "real" Simpson, a sort of anti-"it girl". Thankfully, nearly everyone saw through the facade and realized that her act was even more manufactured than Jessica's, and riled at the indignity of a 19-year old debut artist having the nerve to release an album called Autobiography when (a), she wasn't famous as anything aside from Jessica's kid sister and (b), she didn't have the pedigree to release an album with such a title, as nobody gave a damn about the personal exploits of an unknown rich teen.

After a series of extremely poorly received "live performances", she goes back to her natural blonde color, gets a nose job and jumps on the 80s pop bandwagon with songs like "L.O.V.E.", completely abandoning the "punk" roots that just a few years prior, she had clung to as her "scene". Basically, she adopted the very image that she so vehemently railed against before.

I thought she had gotten a clue that she is absolutely bereft of not only any semblance of musical talent, but anything remotely noteworthy, or even footnoteworthy! But, apparently she is back with some new material, this time biting Missing Persons to "reinvent" herself as some chic, edgy 80s new wave chick.

Behold "Outta My Head", brandishing yet another ear-splitting chorus and raising the bar to unseen levels of disingenuity:



And so, the most pointless career in the history of music soldiers on...

Aren't you being a little harsh there?
Autobiography was a really good album with some terrific songs.
Why shouldn't she be allowed to change her image and her sound like Madonna and a lot of other arists do? Why should she be wedded to the sound and the image she started out with?
Okay, she doesn't have the best voice, but Outta My Head is a catchy song. I think you are a little harsh in saying she has no talent, although she isn't my favorite artists at all.

She sucks big time! I hope her new cd flops. She doesn't have an ounce of talent and changing her nose, hair, tits or anything else doesn't change that fact. Her sister isn't much better either.

i love outta my head. that shit rocks and if the whole cd sounds like that i'm getting it!! i think timbaland and santogold produced some of it.

I really can't stand her and all the phoniness she symbolizes
Nothing about her so-called music is heartfelt or sincere and most of the time its just barely catchy.

When one 'act' fails her she just jumps on the next bandwagon as if the previous never existed, and ahe seems to have no connection to her own songs.

It baffles me, how a non-artist like her is on her 3rd pretentious album while, tons of real 'punk girls' are out there and can't even get signed.

Don't get me wrong, I love a pop song as much as the next person, but I really dislike her

When I heard that "Girlfriend" song, I didn't believe it was her and than I saw that video and wanted to punch her in her face. Honestly, I wouldn't have cared soo much about her image alteration, but she decided to make herself the anti-pop princess and make comments about how she was nothing like those other girls...yadda, yadda, yadda, "I'm a punk chick/sk8ter girl" bullshit. An interviewer even asked her why she made all those comments when her last album and new image emerged and she said she never said anything negative about anyone... Ummm, okay? She went from looking like she didn't wash her hair and going on the Grammy's all frizzy and shit, to "OMG, I totally love my Versace dress and Gucci shades"...bitch, please. Note: If you're going to talk shit about another artist's image, than don't become like said artist because then you're not only a phony, but you're also a hypocrite and fucking idiot. Okay, I'm good...oh, and I agreed with everything you said about the less talented Simpson sister...not that the other one would have made it had she not have married Nick Lachey and whored her marriage out to MTV.

Hmm, which is worse: a.) remaining a virgin until you're married or b.) getting divorced before your turn 30 and having to screw other guys to find husband number 2.

I actually bought her first album and think she has a very good voice, but Ashlee...well, she had phony written all over her from the first time I saw that "Pieces Of Me" video. The girl was on 7th Heaven for chrissake and all of a sudden she wants to be a singer and the total opposite of her bubblegum pop sister. I can't stand Jessica Simpson, but Ashlee's first record had some good songs and intelligent lyrics. And I'm not the only one that feels that way. It got some good press reviews when it came out.
It depresses me how harsh people are on young women like Ashlee and Avril. They are a lot younger than artists like Madonna, Mariah and Janet and are still trying out different things to find themselves and what feels right.
How are you all to judge whether someone else is phony or not?

I love punk attire too.
