Groove of Midnight was originally a MJ song and I think Baby's Got It Bad was the finished version of MJ's song "Got The Hots"
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

bboy87,

i like your avatr, I'm a huge George Michael fan! It's great the 25-Cd Us Version has got a new track!

Well, how could I forget about Sister... it's great song, I loved it and I didn't even know it was written by Rod.

But maybe some of you could help me out, because I'm not sure, if he really just wrote a few tracks for Heatwave's last 2 albums?

Groove Of Midnight... I know there's a demo, where you can hear MJ sing the line. I wonder from when it is?
And I'm not sure, who wrote it. It never was released, so who could tell teh credits?

That the one song you mentioned was half Got The Hots I knew. But Rod Temperton is given the full writer's credit. So Quincy (who co-wrote GTH) must have given it to him, and MJ didn't seemd to mind.
Which leaves space for teh sepculation that some of the "Rod Temperton" songs were partly written by MJ!
Think about Starlight/Thriller. I wonder how much Starlight is similiar to Thriller?

Also MJ says in his Ebony Interview, that there was a creative competition bewteen him adn Rod. This was totally new to me, For me it always looked as if Rod just wrote a few songs. i didn't know he and MJ had much to do with each other.

Much respect to Rod Temperton. One of the greatest producer/songwriter of modern times.

I just discovered Star of a Story, Heatwave and George Benson. Cool to know that he produced both versions. It's such a beautiful song.

Rod was a huge part of the creative process for Thriller. Hearing his interview on the 2001 reissue, he had a bigger process in the making of the album than many think.

Groove of Midnight was done around 1986 or 1987. The full version is not circulating altough some fans claim to have it(but won't share it), it was then given to Siedah Garrett.

Someone recently mixed Got The Hots and Baby's Got It Bad and they were very similar.

About Starlight and Thriller. From what I know, the song went through several changes. From Give Me Some Starlight, to Starlight Sun, to Starlight. It was more upbeat and more pop oriented. Michael, Rod, and Quincy along with Michael Boddicker(Michael's keyboardist) were in the studio and they felt that the song wasn't strong enough. The 3 of them instantly started brainstorming, and from there, Starlight became Thriller. The lyrics were quite different too

The original 6 minute version of The Lady In My Life leaked the other day and features more lyrics
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
