ABBA "The Visitors" album

I'm not sure that I ever see many Abba theads here. Madonna and Prince, OK, but maybe Abba and Prince is a bit of an odd mix. I'm on an Abba kick lately and just bought their "The Visitors" album and am really liking it. I mostly bought it for "Head Over Heels" because I did not want to wait around to pick up "More Abba Gold" (I already have "Abba Gold" and figure now it's better to get both the "Gold" sets rather than the double disc "Definitive" which has less tracks. So any Abba fans and thoughts on this album (apparently the first to be put out on CD, yet their last as a group). The verison I have (and possibly the only one in print) has bonus tracks "Under Attack" and 'The Day Before You Came", their last two singles, as well as "Should I Laugh Or Cry" and "Cassandra".

The title track feature one of the best synth work I have seen in a 80's track.

Also the last track of the album (the album was originally released with only 9 tracks) "Like an Angel Passing Through My Room" is the most hautinng and beautiful track ever done by ABBA. It was originally a disco-esque track...later they stripped dow and made an alternate mix.

Excellent!

Thank you v for making this thread. This album deserves more love.

it's a shame people only see ABBA has a singles group. This album is flawless.

I put ABBA in the QUEEN class, they knew what it took to be a success to everyone. They didnt really care about where they were, they went everywhere, which is why the 2 of them are the most successful selling artists worldwide. Abba and Queen were not American chart forces, but they were both untouchable on the world stages. ABBA are very under-rated in terms of their albums and their writing and production, and just their harmonies and singing too.

I almost passed on this CD knowing that the boxed set is out there, but I'm not sure how invested I wanted to get. Maybe much later down the road. I never did think of Abba as possibly being good album artists, but this is most certaintly an album, not just singles (I've heard even fans suggest their early stuff was too bubble gum and only in the laster years did they get more invovled in making albums). I did not know what to expect from the album but assumed it would be in the darker area (more "Winner Takes It All" then "Dancing Queen", which is not a favorite of mine).

The Day Before You Came is one of my favourite ABBA tracks. love2

And one more thing: it's been digitally recorded in 1981. eek
Was it the first digitally recorded album ever? I wonder! hmmm

Says one of the first but first to be put on CD. I've been listening to "More Abba Gold" (still available via BMG music club!) for hours and got reminded about how much I love Abba and especially these tracks (quite a few of them are featured on this set).

This, Waterloo and the first one are the only albums I don't have... I think they became almost better with each album but Visitors is too down for me... very sad and you can feel teh distance between them (like on the cover).
