I think they are going to adjust the numbers for Gold and Platnum in this country. With sales down 14% this year and by the end of the Fiscal year the projection is around 20% and that trend will continue till the climate changes of how things are done (i.e radio, video, promoting), they will adjust to the UK numbers of 250,000 GOLD and 500,000 platnum

I think they are going to follow through and adjust the numbers for achieving GOld and Platnum to 250,000 and 500,000. With the industry down 14% right now to last year and the projection is to be 22% by the end of the fiscal year (feb08) unless there is a change in the way things are done on the radio, video, and just general prmotion of music this will continue yearly.

I bet there isn't one album on this list that isn't in at least one orger's collection.

Who's the one that owns High School Musical 2? And that Akon album? I know orgers be likin' Akon on the down low.

See, I thought the whole album was gonna be like that, but songs like the one with Nicole Scherzinger , Apologize, and 2 Man Show kinda killed it for me
If you will, so will I

Those numbers are so bad (of course, so are most of the albums) but I guess the year isn't up. I guess if that's what pop music consists of....I mean, Daughtry?

Akon is this years Sean Paul, a token Dancehall artist if you want to call it that. The scary thing is that people actually lump Sean Paul in with REGGAE, kind of a slap in the face to Bob Marley. But AKON is nothing more than Sean Paul 2007, similar to what Shaggy was, lets see who they elect for 2008.

Don't even play!! I mean Seal Paul is nobody's Bob Marley, and I'm not his #1 fan but come on he's definitly not deserving of being lumped together with Akon. They do completely different styles of music! lol
That would be like pairing Jill Scott and Ciara

Haha, I'm all over every Spice Girls thread on the org. That's way more embarrassing than liking Akon.

I remember there was one orger that admitted to liking Akon. She thought he was hot. confused

That orger is not me. I swear. lol

C'mon, orgers with kids know the lyrics to the High School Musical 2 and Hannah Montana albums backwards and forwards. Don't front, people.

If you liked Loose, Thicke, Escape & Futuresess, have you peeped Timbaland's Shock Value in full? I'll be real: THAT WHOLE CD WAS BUMPIN. It's still jam shit off of that album. That was one of my party CDs this year.

Board Meeting, Oh Timbaland, Bombay, SCREAM, Fantasy, Miscommunication, Come & Get Me, Bounce, Give it To Me, Apologize, Release!, The Way I Are --- all hot.

"Apologize" is the one that's on the radio right now.

They could do that and probably will, but that makes no sense and doesn't solve the industries problems at all! What are they bragging about...the fact that they sold half as many copies as they would have maybe even five years ago? I think you got to put an asterik by those new platinum albums!

I know everyone in the industry says the CD market is dead but damn that's depressing! It can't just be a singles market out there (the singles that rank at the top are awful and only cater to kids!). But frankly, will it be worth it for artists to make new albums if this is where it's going....Record companies to make new albums....Forget the death of the CD....Sounds like the death of new music! Then again, if people, 1. Stop making albums worth listening to and 2. Release them less frequently, you almost can't blame the consumer. A 3 year wait for albums from most major artists is absurd, especially when they come back with shit!

The thing is that the labels are not making the connection between things like, how come Rihanna has had 4 top 10 singles and has only sold 700,000 records?
Back in 1985 The Cars had Heartbeat City and that had 5 top 20 singles and sold 4 million copies, and the singles back then were more expensive too. Its not like they arent pushing her, shes on every magazine, shes always got a video, so there is an issue. But they arent connecting anything at this point, they can blame downloading all they want, and yes it is an issue, but there is a bigger picture to look at, things are so consolidated that its choking the industry to death, a typical radio playlist now spans 25 songs, back in the late 80's it had 75. MTV ran almost nonstop music videos every day back in the later 80's, this past week, they had 4.5 hours of videos, THE WHOLE WEEK COMBINED, ask yourself why arent Bruce or The Eagles or Paul McCartney and others affected? They are selling with no marketing whatsoever.
