Rihanna's "Umbrella" Is A Good Song

I've hated everything I've heard from this chick before, but I have to say this tune is actually pretty decent. It's got a great melody, a cute lyric and a killer chorus. Clearly, there is still some hope for the next generation. Rejoice!

I like it as a song too, its just that she sounds so dreadful singing it; and the fact that she says "Umber-rella" rather than Umbrella gets on my nerves for some reason

I am sooooo out of touch with the charts these days. confused It's been #1 in the UK charts for ten weeks in a row, yet I only heard it 2 weeks ago. falloff I just don't listen to the radio, period. shrug

I don't mind it - but when I mention it to most people, they are, like, 'Nooooo! That song!'. shake dead I think a lot of people are sick of it over here. lol

I kinda like it, too. It's a nice Ella Fitzgerald tribute. Of course, I have no idea why she has an umber and why she wants Ella to stand under it.lol

I still don’t quite get her popularity but must confess that I like Breaking Dishes and I love the use of Wanna Be Startin’ Something in her song Don’t Stop the Music. Great dance track.

I still can´t decide if I like it or not. But with that much rotation on TV I think I´ll get soon annoyed by it.

I hate this song so much. Her voice is grating and irritating. I hate that people don't even have to know how to sing to have a hit record.

I could not agree more, this song is such CRAP and is a perfect example of why top 40 radio is just so fucking terrible these days. There is no soul, only money-generating formulaic garbage like this, and the kids are none the wiser. Sad.

I feel the same way. I have to turn this the minute it comes on, otherwise the horrible chorus will be stuck in my head. I asked my 14 year old son what is with her voice in this song, and he said that's the way people sing now-a-days. I said, "what? Like crap?"

I like the song too. The album is not too bad very dance/pop kinda vibe which sets it apart from the boring weak drum machine driven that is RNB these days. That's the thing that sets her apart, her voice is paper thin but her music is fun and dare I interesting (well comparatively biggrin )

nod Agreed. The musical arrangement is tight with a Pop Electro Edge.

Pop Electro Edge ?!

Listen to some Jamie Lidell, Mocky, Peven Everett, Amp Fiddler, Vikter Duplaix or the more pop versions likes of Justice, Chromeo, Daft Punk etc etc and you know what a "Pop Electro Edge" really is...
