There was only ONE original song on Led Zeppelin (1969)

ALL other songs were STOLEN. The album is essentially a cover album of blues and folk songs but the original artists and writers were not given credit. This whole album with the exception of Good Times Bad Times is blatant plagiarism.

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - original by Joan Baez
You Shook Me - original by Willie Dixon
Dazed And Confused - original by Jake Holmes
Your Time Is Gonna Come - the guitar riff sounds like the one in "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by Traffic, and the melody and chord progression of "Can't Find My Way" by Blind Faith
Black Mountain Side - "Black Water Side" by Bert Jansch
Communication Breakdown - "Nervous Breakdown" by Eddie Cochran
I Can't Quit You Baby - original by Otis Rush
How Many More Times - "How Many More Years" by Howlin' Wolf

These are seriously dead ringers. I couldn't believe my ears.

Has this been discussed before? I just found this out and I'm really...disgusted. disbelief

nod It has been discussed before, but it was years ago, so it's probably due an airing again.

The last time it was discussed here was when I first found out that loads of their stuff was stolen. If I recall correctly it's not just that album either.

More info here http://www.furious.com/pe...ypage.html I haven't read it all as it's quite detailed and I'm 'working'.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

your thinking of Thank you of zep 2.

Yes your correct on others. I was pissed at first but hey what can you do?

I had all the originals on my laptop and Zep's are superior.

Go on bearshare and dl all the originals to compare; that's what i did. It's the same for nearly every album unfortunately. You just have to get passed it and try to enjoy the music.

Whole lotta love for e.g was taken from steve merriot. The vocals are exactly the same; even the stops and the ending.

I agree, but...

They could have given credit where credit was due and still have been just as successful. Stealing songs is the worst thing an artist can do IMO.

No, I'm not. I haven't done extensive research...but I doubt it would be considered one of the plagarised songs if he was credited.

Well, they paid for it with payouts, overhauling of song credits and a loss of respect in some quarters.

Still the best rock music ever committed to disc, tho'. music

This old news among Blues fans extends into Led Zeppelin II with The Lemon Song (credited to John Bonham/John Paul Jones/Jimmy Page/Robert Plant) which uses the guitar riff and lyrics from Killing Floor (written by Howlin' Wolf) along with lyrics from Robert Johnson's Traveling Riverside Blues - You can squeeze my lemon 'til the juice run down my leg.

It become part of general Pop Culture when Homer Simpson said...

I'm seriously not going to get into all this again, BUT Blind Faith's album came out after Zep I actually, which was recorded in October '68, so it's hard to say who was influenced by who. I hear a similar melody, but nothing blatant. shrug

Robert Plant put together a comp CD a couple of years ago that featured all the songs and original artists thay they were influenced by and nicked tunes/lyrics from. I don't think he's all that proud of the fact that they didn't credit some other artists in the beginning. Just a guess though.

Countless artists back then took old blues and folk songs and made them their own. Zep's mistake was not crediting people when those similarities became too close to the orginals. I still love them though.

They really grew as artists though with their subsequent albums (after I and II I mean) and developed their own sound. I still adore the really heavy, straightforward blues-rock sound of their early stuff though. Rock doesn't get any better than that IMO. horns

I can't spell today

I know Zep were a huge influence on Queen but I've never really heard them ripping off their riffs.
Then again, I don't much listen to Queen apart from the first Greatest Hits album, so maybe that's why. smile
