Blancmange

I recently stumbled across one of Blancmange's videos here in Australia- "Living on the Ceiling". I was taken aback by the coolness of the new wave. cool I checked them out on youtube and discovered another great song in the poignant "Waves". I've tried tracking down a copy of any of their CDs, and have come up empty in Australia. It seems they are quite obscure. Does anyone know whether they are worth investigating? I seek the advice of ye org experts. pray

I don't know a great deal about them, but I do have several of their songs on compilations - 'feel me' and 'that's love that it is' are two that I can recall, though I'm pretty sure there were others. If you like those songs you linked to then you'd probably like these ones as well. I thought they were a fairly run of the mill new romantic act, but since you like that style I'd expect you'd probably find them enjoyable enough.

edit: ah, just remembered the name of track an ex-friend threw on a cassette complilation he made for me - lose your love. I always thought this song held the strong scent of fromage: it's definitely not something that appeals to my tastes, but it is catchy.

I remember seeing a couple of their videos. They were alright, but I thought they were riding the coat tails of other New Wave/New Romantic acts. shrug

The only song by Blancmange that I like is "Don't Tell Me"--great synth line in that one. "Living On The Ceiling" isn't bad, but I heard Rosetta Stone's cover first which is darker and better suited for the song I think. The other singles I've heard like "Lose Your Love" and "That's Love, That It Is" I thought were awful.

I kind of figured. Sometimes artists are obscure for a reason, and I thought perhaps they only had a few good songs.

I found a link. It's at the very end of this one, around the 6:30 mark: http://www.youtube.com/wa...wwArFtPLnM

I like this one too. biggrin

It seems they're a bit hit or miss. I can see where NWF's idea of them riding the New Wave coattails comes from, though.
