Its amazing how PCD has held in the top 50 for close to 2 years now, especially in the genre of music they are in. The funny thing is that Nicoles solo album in the summer will probably join it in the Top 50 and then the new PCD record in late 2007 will most likely join them. Easily Universals top "cash cow".

With all the BET shows dedicated to Biggie this past week, and other specials, the fact that the "Best of Biggie" couldnt do 100,000 units shows how times are changing.

Actually the album hasnt been out of the Top half of the chart at all since Sept 2005, the tv show and now the US tour is helping, but what didnt help was Timbalands horrible "Wait a Minute" remix which became their first single to miss the top30.

Timbaland did a remix for them? It didn't make the top 30? I wonder why you haven't mentioned that before?! lol

But his streak isn't fading. Between Loose, FutureSex/LoveSounds, and some other projects, he's as successful as ever.

Its just fading, if you spread yourself out too much and put a beat on everyone, people will tire of you, its just overkill.

You know things are pretty fucked up when a posthums greatest hits by a rapper who has already sold tons of records is number one! What does that say about new music. At least it almost cracked 100K.

Well 100,000 for a Rap release of someone of this stature and with the promotion it was getting all last week, that is a major flop, because now it will sink like a stone, that title has no staying power, next week it will probably drop off about 70-80%. But at least it didnt cost anything to make it. This goes to show that maor record chains shutting stores last year and early this year is what is driving the numbers way down, not downloads. A few years ago Sam Goody which was the major Rap/RB supplier would have blew out of the BIGGIE best of, i think when people see numbers decline they forget that in the last year almost 2000 stores have closed, U cant sell cds if there are no stores, only 10% of business is downloading at this point.

Search them all and prove it, ive had over 3000 threads and about 15-20 even mention her, good fact finding, do you work for George Bush?

shrug I guess I'm just not seeing the fade. He's been doing this for over 10 years and I think last year may have been his biggest one yet.

I think that is great that the "Greatest Hits" of The Notorious B.I.G. is number one. I think Bad Boy Entertainment still could have put together a better "greatest hits" album. They could have put some more of those rare unreleased music of his on there. Those two previous unreleased songs on there, I had those for a while now. They both were originally intended for The Notorious B.I.G. "Duets" album that was released (I think) in 2005/06. They could have put some of those hard to find classic remixes. They could have made it a double album. As a fan of Biggie and Bad Boy, I was very disappointed at this "greatest hits" album.

Last week marked the 10th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.'s death and Bad Boy Records' release of Greatest Hits, a collection of 17 tracks from the rapper. This week, the LP sits atop Billboard's top 200 sales chart, earning the late, great Biggie a third #1 debut — though it generated far fewer scans than most of his previous efforts.

B.I.G.'s inaugural outing Ready to Die opened at #15 on the chart in 1994, with sales nearing 56,000, while 1997's posthumous Life After Death bowed at #1 with 689,500 sold. Two years later, 1999's Born Again also debuted at #1, with 485,000 scans, while 2005's Duets: The Final Chapter opened at #3, with 438,000 sales.

A few years ago Sam Goody which was the major Rap/RB supplier would have blew out of the BIGGIE best of, i think when people see numbers decline they forget that in the last year almost 2000 stores have closed, U cant sell cds if there are no stores, only 10% of business is downloading at this point.

I disagree... who needs a Biggie greatest hits ??? Everybody who is a biggie fan alreday have the 2 major cds... Ready to Die and Life after Death

Well there are new tracks on the cd, so i think the promotion and all the Hype around the 10year anniversary didnt really do much to push the title, cause you figure this will be the only week the title will sell. So like the industry thinks, if you dont sell week 1, its a done deal.

I had no idea they included new tracks... Haven't heard anything on the Radio

This reveals everything that is wrong with the promotion of rock today. !!! delivered an absolutely stunning album with Myth Takes, and its debut can't even overtake an album released months ago by complete posers. Shocking.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
