Well, it's certainly up there. I think it's the best song on the album, but the other two are better singles (if that makes any sense). I guess it's like the distinction between the Grammy Awards for Song/Record of the Year.

Since this song was released as a single in 1985, wouldn't it be fair to list it with the 1985 group, Alex?

On a side note, I wouldn't mind contributing but it seems a little daunting to list some 676 songs over more than a quarter century.

[Edited 3/10/07 17:24pm]

You're right. The song was released as a single in December of '84 in the UK, but not until '85 here in the States. It's really just me being lazy. I've just been sorting my songs in iTunes by year, whittling it down to my favorites, and then ranking them.

actually I've always slotted records by the year they were first released. If it was released in the UK in '84, I'd personally be inclined to leave it there.

I used to do it Najee's way, but then I switched to your way a while back. Unfortunately, that means it's a lot of both in my song library.

IMO, it makes more sense to base a song released as a single in the year in which it reached a certain point on the music charts (usually, its highest peak). Singles like Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" became a No. 1 song in February 1983 and "Beat It" reached the top in May 1983, so they obviously are not going to be considered two of the best songs of 1982.
