Oh crackers, I just love it to death. I think it's total fun. I actually expected that I might get laughed at for having it at the top of '92. In fact someone else here just name-checked it on a thread about most hated songs or some such topic.

Are you going to be adding to your list? I was going to let this go, but if you and Moonbeam are going to keep adding, then I'll keep going as well.

I've got a song called "Lisa.... your love is so hard". Maybe this song was meant.

"Lisa...your love is so hard" is the name of a really weird bootleg. But those are 2 separate songs.

"Lisa" is a Dirty Mind outtake and "Your Love Is So Hard" is from 1989.

Rolling Stone record guide, rateyourmusic and allmusic guide all have it pegged as '84.

That could be the US date, mind you...

I think the fact that we have a shared appreciation of metal is a big part of it as well. Your comments about Rust in Peace reminded me how much I love Megadeth, and I never would have gotten into Prong or Flipper (not metal, that one, but still...) if not for you. So credit where credit is due: Thank you!

Time and Tide is almost as fantastic, but True Colours has to be my favorite Enz album. I hope you got the newly remastered version; it has two bonus tracks, which includes a favorite of mine called "Things."

No remastered version here, I'm afraid - just an old copy that I dug out of the 2nd hand bin. I suppose missing out on the bonus tracks is the price I have to pay for being a cheap-skate.

1998

A great year here, and I didn't really appreciate how great it was until I started this list and realized that three of my top-drawer favourite releases came out in '98.

Firstly, there was Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels...well, I don't think I can or need to add to what's already been said about it, so I'll just state the obvious: it's a masterpiece, a perfect album, and one of the most complete listening experiences I've ever enjoyed.

I love The Handsome Family and Pernice Brothers albums that came out this year almost as much, but those are pretty esoteric preferences and I don't think for a second that they're as universally great as Car Wheels.

1) wherein obscurely - pernice brothers
2) lake charles - lucinda williams
3) the giant of illinois - handsome family
4) I lost it - lucinda williams
5) jackson - lucinda williams
6) wait to stop - pernice brothers
7) dimmest star - pernice brothers
8) oh comely - neutral milk hotel
9) my ghost - handsome family
10) angel - massive attack
11) waltz #1 - elliot smith
12) everything goes around the water - delgados
