Top 10 Doors Songs

It's summer here down in Australia, and I find that The Doors offer a nice soundtrack to the sweaty, sultry heat. As such, I've been blasting them a lot lately. So without further ado, what are your top 10 Doors songs?

Here are mine.

1. "Riders on the Storm"- beautifully eerie and ominous, this song is a perfect capstone to their Morrison-helmed career. The whispered vocals throughout augment the tension, and the jazzy instrumentation just takes me over the edge!

2. "The Crystal Ship"- alluring and beautiful, this ballad is my favorite from their debut album, which is really saying something. The piano solo in the middle makes me melt!

3. "Love Me Two Times"- sex. Pure sex. This song oozes it, drips it, sweats it from every pore.

4. "People Are Strange"- groovy pop at its best. Morrison as iconoclast. Perfect!

5. "L.A. Woman"- simply rocking blues. This is the perfect summary of that summer heat that just burns through in their music. I love the alchemy of instruments in this- the added bass guitar really rounds out their sound so well. Perhaps that's why L.A. Woman is my favorite album of theirs.

6. "The End"- epic and powerful. Some may call it pretentious, but this Eastern-tinged Oedipus ode of disillusionment is simply grand and sublime.

7. "When the Music's Over"- another epic album closer and another gem. That synth solo in the middle blisters and this song encapsulates everything The Doors do so well.

8. "Light My Fire"- simply classic. This song deserves all of its acclaim. I love how they managed to turn a 7-minute organ whirlwind into one of the most revered songs of rock 'n roll.

9. "Love Her Madly"- jangly and bluesy. Another standout from L.A. Woman, I really like the way Jim Morrison's voice grew deeper and more gnarled. Must have been that lumberjack look he was rockin'.

10. "My Eyes Have Seen You"- roaring fun rock. Jim is about as maniacal as ever on the vocals and it just oozes adrenaline.

Gosh, it's been a minute since I've listened to them. I'll have to brush up and get back to this.

All I know is that "The End" is my favorite. I'd agree with a lot of your picks Eens.

"Roadhouse Blues" is indeed great. And "You Make Me Real". Morrison Hotel is solid. nod

I woke up this morning and I got myself a BEE-ER! lol I always loved that song.

I have fond memories of going on a long road trip with my parents in our van. They had this big soft armchair in the back where I would sit with my walkman, listen to Riders on the Storm and watch the plains roll by. fricken paradise!
