GUY's debut

Their first "tape" never gets old. You can still put this on at a party and it goes all night!

One of the top 5 R&B debuts of all time. No filler. You can play it all the way through, now how many albums today can you say that about?

The reception to GUY's first album started somewhat slowly, but then as more songs were being played on radio stations and Teddy Riley as a producer was getting more face time the album exploded. Some of the songs like "I Like" and "Spend the Night" were helped by remixes when they became singles.

Overall, a very solid first album that outside of the Timmy Gatling songs ("You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business") were in constant rotation for 18 months. If this album is re-issued, it would be nice that the remix to "My Fantasy" would be added.

No! That's a terrible idea! OK, it's not a bad idea at all, but "My Fantasy" is the least of our concerns. You can get mixes of that on the remastered Do the Right Thing soundtrack (although not exactly the one you want). The video remix of "Spend the Night" should be priority #1. #2 should be all of the 12" mixes. I want a two-disk set!

Personally, the Timmy Gatling songs can be dropped in favor of "My Fantasy" for these reasons:

1.) Gatling quit GUY before the album hit the streets.

2.) "My Fantasy" was GUY's first chart-topping single.

3.) "My Fantasy" was definitely more in line with the sound and style associated with GUY. "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business" don't fit with the rest of the material, especially in light of Gatling no longer being in the group.

4.) Of all the songs on that album, the Gatling songs got the least rotation on radio stations, in clubs and in people's personal music and they were least memorable.

The second album did it for me. That intro..then "Her" kicks in. Bloody great.

But some of the remixes are great for tracks on both albums, such as "Teddy's Jam 2" and definitely "Spend The Night".

With GUY's first album, you can insert the remixes to "Round and Round (Merry-Go-Round of Love)," "I Like" and "Spend the Night" in place of the originals. You can add the remixed version of "My Fantasy" and remove the Timmy Gatling songs and you're set.

With "The Future," you almost have to release a remix album. "Wanna Get With U" can be be replaced with the video version of the song (which sounded like the club remix at the end of "The Future," save it had the complete lyrics). But the singles "Let's Chill," "Do Me Right" and "D-O-G Me Out" each had at least two great remixes each and it would be unfair to single one out over the others.

I recently burned a CD of GUY's greatest songs, plus Aaron Hall's "Don't Be Afraid:"

"Groove Me"
"Teddy's Jam"
"Wanna Get with U" (remix)
"My Fantasy (from 'Do the Right Thing')" (remix)
"Let's Stay Together"
"Let's Chill" (remix)
"Goodbye Love"
"Piece of My Love"
"Tease Me Tonight"
"Don't Be Afraid" (remix)
"Tell Me What You Like (from 'New York Undercover')"
"Round and Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love)" (remix)
"Do Me Right" (remix)
"D-O-G Me Out" (remix)
"I Like" (remix)
"Teddy's Jam II"
"Spend the Night" (remix)
"New Jack City (from 'New Jack City')"

I still break out my 12" remixes of "D-O-G Me Out" and "Teddy's Jam2". SLAMMIN'.

On the debut album, I have 2 go with "Groove Me" as my fav... I 1st heard it in NYC the year it came out, on the street, via my FM Walkman.

[Bait snip - luv4u] His smooth voise was a good transition from the Charlie Wilson-esque Aaron Hall. And WHO can forget the mega-jam "You Can Call Me Crazy"?! Timmy's songs NEED to be on there and they ADD to the album rather than take away from it. Who gives a shit about "rotation"?

Does anyone remember Timmy gatling' solo album "help"? I personally prefer it over guy's debut.

Guy did the best remixes. "i like" and "round and round" are killer.

"It ain't over"

Also, yes, the "dog me out" remix with aquil kicks major ass.

The original version of "I Like" is perfect and essential. They can add the remix, though. "You Can Call Me Crazy" is great. "My Business" is the weakest track, but I still wouldn't cut it.

I'm still mystified a Guy remix CD doesn't exist. Record companies are stupid.

yeah, that would be awesome. They put alot into those remixes. Adding new vocals and beats etc.... i think "dog me out" remix is the only time u hear damien hall on lead vox for Guy?

The "her" remix is hot too
