Band MIA: The Sundays

Anyone a fan of this English band? What the heck happened to them?

It's been almost 10 years now since Static & Silence (their last and best album) was released. And there were rumors of a greatest hits package being released in 2000, but it never happened. sad

So what's up with Harriet and David? Anyone know anything?

Man, I raise the alarm on this board about their disappearance probably two or three times a year.

I love that group's work, man. Harriet Wheeler's voice is, perhaps, the most pristine and pure voice I've ever heard put to pop music. An ex-girlfriend of mine, as I blasted a Cranberries/Sundays mix CD on a cross-country drive, described Wheeler's voice as something like "anti-soul." lol

But, dang, it's so beautiful.

She and her guitarist hubby, David, (whose work so perfectly complemented her singing) apparently started a family. The other musicians found work with other projects. Our friends across the pond should find a way to guilt that group into reuniting. Scores of fan sites have apparently been unable to do so.

For the umpteenth time: We really are brothers, Lammastide... Whoa!!! omfg

Their debut is a wonderful collection of low-key perfection - every song is a flawless, under-stated little gem.

I liked the other two albums much less, but I'd still love to hear that voice again.

I love them too, but I don't know anything new about them.
Keep your headphones on.

i felt that the cranberries took the Sundays sound. mad but anyway.....
i've read that she wanted to raise their children out of the spotlight; but did they really have to stop making music? neutral there was also a greatest hits/singles collection rumoured about a year ago.... but you know how rumours go. sad

I think Dolores and the gang certainly tried to co-opt that sound, but they were too gritty to truly do it justice. There was a levity to the Sundays' sound that usually eluded the Cranberries. Plus, the latter had all that N. Ireland stuff to emote... lol No "Static and Silence" to be found in "Zombie," I'm afraid.

There's always the chance the band thought it best to exit while at their peak.

They certainly did. sad

But, I'd buy a greatest hits compilation just on the chance of some new tracks.
