Early Eighties Music (80-83)

Can anyone recommend a good compilation cd or cds that I can purchase of early eighties synth pop music? prefferably from a reputable label so that I don't have to trawl through pages and pages of stuff at Amazon or Ebay. biggrin

The Greatest Hits of the 80's (8 cd set).

A friend of mine bought it for me a few years ago and it's excellent.

According to HMV it has been deleted and is no longer available but it does list the contents of each disc which will give you a good idea whether or not this is the one for you. It definitely has my recommendation anyway. Sadly, my memory isn't good enough to tell which of the songs fall within the 80-83 period, but I imagine some of them must do.

There are some used and new on Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/gp/...oding=UTF8

I don't know of anywhere reputable (i.e. a shop) that specialises in this sort of stuff, but most major record stores carry a fairly extensive range of compilations, particularly at the moment. Other than that, and I know it's not what you want to hear, but I think trawling through Amazon is your best bet. On the plus side, I've already done a little bit of the trawling for you. biggrin
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

The Retroactive series of 80s synth-pop is good.Currently there's 4 volumes & I only have vol.2.This particular volume has that great song from Silence of the Lambs, Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus.Although I don't think every song fits within your paramaters of music between 80-83, I still reccomend this volume.

The Human League Human (Extended Version) 5:02 **
A-Ha The Sun Always Shines On T.V. (Extended Version) 8:26 **
Tears For Fears Shout (Dub Mix) 6:47 **
Blancmange Don't Tell Me (Dance Remix) 6:51**
Howard Jones Look Mama (Megamamamix) 9:15 **
Figures On A Beach No Stars (Unreleased Club Mix) 6:02 **
OMD So In Love (Brand New Extended Mix) 5:39 **
Fuzzbox International Rescue (The Orgasmatron Mix) 6:03 **
Q. Lazzarus Goodbye Horses (Extended Version) 6:25 **
The Dream Academy The Love Parade (12" Mix) 6:12 **
Alphaville Jet Set (Jellybean Mix) 6:29 **
Yaz State Farm (Madhouse Mix) 5:24

You don't know how grateful I am to you for this one. I listened to this one alot at work, but when I got another job forgot to bring it and forgot the exact title.

Try finding this one among the many 80's albums out there...

So thanks.

And indeed, this is a GREAT collection of 80's songs.

Ive heard those CDs but theres some rubbish on them like Eitenne by some French bird, Save your love by Renee and Renato, Sinitta, Sabrina and someone called Prince. The funniest is a song in Portugese with a long synth orchesta and a tacky one called Canto Italiano by Toto Cuelo.
Still those songs are great, it has mel and kim, Visage, Doot Doot by Freur, Da Da by Trio and lots of gems and 99 Luftballoons in German.
17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Guesh Patti is the name of the bird. Was a big hit all across Europe, back in '88

I have looked at the links, but they are not really the ones I am after
I am looking for songs that were known as synth pop or possibly new romantic (usually one hit wonders) in the very Early Eighties like, dont talk to me about love by Altered Images etc ...

do your own compilation! I'd start with:
The Human League - sound of the crowd ( check the totp performance on youtube)
Martha and the Muffins - echo beach
The Passions - I'm in love with a german film star

Forget all that stuff and just stick with Joy Division and work your way up from there.
