like robin williams, the early stuff is superior to the modern version which is a sad over the top mockery of the brilliance of the earlier...

You mean with Eddie? I know what you mean. I've always thought his style was simialr to Robin Williams. His train of thought delivery that's just jumps all over the place I mean.

edit to say that this picture you posted just answered my question. lol I thought you were talking about Eddie Izzard.

i see. eddie has yet to dissapoint me. margaret... well, the newer is okay, but this little heard album is BY FAR her best. it contains the marvelous "hi my name is gwen, and i am here to wash your vagina" bit, which is played very subtley on this album. the gwen voice is timid and bored, which makes it funny. i saw that she brought that bit back for one of the "now that i am popular" concert dvds, and suddenly it was "HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA! HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA! HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA!" ::run to other side of stage:: HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA!HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA!HI MY NAME IS IS GWEN AND I'M HERE TO WASH YOUR VAGINA! VAGINA"

it became really annoying and over the top. while i am happy she got famous and popular again, it has made her art suffer drastically. she was better when no one was paying attention and she had to fight for it.

no flag, no country. those are the rules that i've just made up.

izzard is BRILLIANt. probably my fave. what i love about him is his refusal to dumb it down for the lowest common denominator. he expects the audience to rise to his level of intelligence or don't bother. most ocmedians go for stuff that a wide swath can relate to so as to attract a larger audience.

nod Have to seen his site? He has ringtone downloads for your cell phone and wake-up calls that are hilarious. lol But I can't download them because I'm not in the UK. fit

I never got into Margaret Cho actually. And I haven't heard this album either. hmmm

I have a few of Eddie's stand-up shows on DVD and I was actually really disappointed in "Sexie" for example. There were just way too many silent audience moments that took him too long to recover from and he seemed a bit high actually. I haven't seen/heard all of his work in stand-up though, but I do know that from what I've heard I like "Dress To Kill" the best. nod "Unrepeatable" is good too.

Originally a musician, this one by Bill Cosby does involve music...

...Not a great album but I Luv Myself Better Than I Luv Myself is a pretty funny JB parody.

Disco Bill...

...is a better record musically and has a few funny bits.

Nate, can I fall down?

he bugs me. i sat through a comedy special of his and all his humor was so short-term attention span. kinda like robin williams with a good education. i like when he's in films, though - he's a fine character actor.

also, these two Dick Gregory albums may not be "comedy" records in the strictest sense, but as standup social comentary, they must be heard. Relevant even in the new millenium....

Oh no, I was kidding about the comedy record thing. Don't take it so seriously. Never take anything I say too seriously. Except when I'm serious about something. boxed
