i've never believed any of that stuff about elvis being racist. i heard my dad tell a story once about Elvis showing up at a gas station and not having money to buy gas and then a black lady pays for it and Elvis rewards her with a new car. i however don't know if this is actually true since my dad is quite fond of making up sories

Spats is correct.

In November 1956 Elvis was in Las Vegas and went to see Billy Ward and His Dominoes. Jackie Wilson was in the Dominoes and they did a medley of Elvis songs - reportedly Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel, and two others. Elvis was so taken by Jackie's performance that he attended their show four times.

On December 4, 1956, Elvis stopped by Sun Studio and enjoyed an impromptu jam session with Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins (and maybe or maybe not Johnny Cash, who was at least there for a photo). Elvis said to them, "I heard this guy in Las Vegas, with Billy Ward and His Dominoes... there was a guy out there that was doing a takeoff on me - 'Dont Be Cruel.' He tried so hard, until he got much better boy, much better than that record of mine." Elvis went into further detail and a few renditions of the song, imitating Jackie imitating Elvis.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Sam Phillips hit record AND called the local newspaper. The story appeared the next day in the Memphis press, however the tapes didn't surface until a few years after Elvis died. This event is commonly called the Million Dollar Quartet or Million Dollar Session.

As much as you are fond of making up Oprah Winfrey quotes? ("Americans consume the most fast food than any nation on Earth and the stupid motherfuckers wonder why they are so fat? " - Oprah Winfrey)

Are you referring to when he supposedly called Ray Charles a "blind n-bomb"? I read that years ago. Is this true?
