Al B. Sure Does anyone ever think about him? I just heard "Get Off On Your Own Girl" and remembered he was considered pretty "fly" back in the day.

[Edited 9/14/05 7:35am] I heard a rumor the original chorus to "Off on your own girl" were: I only got 1 eyebrow/Said I only got one eyebrow/Said I only got 1 eyebrow, brow, brow, brow "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --

Trust me, I know from a VERY CLOSE SOURCE TO AL that he WON'T be back in action. He now DJs a radio show in the Bay Area called The Secret Garden.
His debut was the shit though! First time anyone ever had 1 side for slow jams and the other side for uptempo cuts. Very tight production, considering he can't sing a damn. Kyle West should go down as one fo the greatest producers of all time for turning that trick. "But what of black women? . . . I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire." -- W.E.B. Du Bois --

Iam glad people on here love al b.
Iam sure most of the org knows i love him too. And his work with tevin and jeremy jordan. And al's 3rd album (1992's "sexy vs") is a lost gem.

Funny thing about Al's 3rd album "Sexy Versus"...he used "versus"...it shoulda been "Verses." How does a record company let that slip? "But what of black women? . . . ? I never understood that either? Also, hsi 3rd album was not on uptown. I guess it was too adult contemporary? "playing games" is al's best slowjam proberly. Its also a very sad song.

I love "Misunderstanding" (12" video version), with that silly music video with al b trying so hard to dance.

The funny part about "Right Now" is how he basically dogged Tevin out and used semi-hook HE gave Tevin! LOL! "goodbye" by any chance?) yeah "off on ur own" is cool, though the video is awful, at least "misunderstanding" has some nice dancing and that then common vibe of dancing on a street at night. I need to get the 12" of "off on ur own girl". Aswell as getting the remix for "had enuff". Its just a sure thang.

Was he the one that got busted for something? Why do I remember that? Was he with an underage girl or something? I forgot. He could hit those high notes though.

when i saw this thread..YOU KNEW I WAS COMING!
his 2nd album.my favorite. as far as the "sexy versus" i remember him explaining it as being sexy "versus" yourself..i forgot the rest of the article. it was out of the black beat mag. let me go listen to it. Kyle West DEFINITELY broke it down for the second release.
