Lauren Hill in the UK OK I am not a Lauren Hill fan, but here's one for you fans to discuss:
I just heard a story on BBC Radio saying that she played her first UK show for years last night in London and that it didn't go well.. Apparently, she came on an hour-and-a-half late. When it was announced that she was late due to traffic problems (which the reporter questioned, as the hotel in which Hill was staying is very close to the venue), the crowd boo-ed and jeered. She played only for one hour, and many commented that "she was only playing to herself" and that she barely acknowledged the crowd. Her older tunes were said to be performed with little enthusiasm. The sound was also heavily criticised. Get this though: Even though she did turn up and perform, the venue is offering full refunds to disappointed punters!!! At £45 a pop, this was not a cheap ticket, and not an opportunity Hill could afford to screw up. God, my spelling is as bad as Lauren's timekeeping edit [Edited 7/13/05 6:06am]

I believe this story.Lauryn is going through alot of "drama" these days, and she's having a hard time getting her life back together. It's so sad.

I'm so over her self indulgent escapade, she's turned into the exact person she sang about on "Superstar". Fame was not for her. altho she's looking really fine these days

It is sad to see that she is blaming lots of peeps for what has gone 'wrong' with her life. To me it often sounds like she should do some introspective stuff instead. What is it with US R&B artists performing in Europe, BTW? THere are almost always problems, delays and cancelations? Can't they handle Europe and a critical environment?

The saddest thing is that the reporters also added that, when it was just Lauren and her guitar, she was really on form and sang beautifully.
Such a shame. People come to a show with expectation and demands, yes, but also with a real excitement and a love for the artist. No-one wants or expects an artist to fall flat on their ass at a gig, so lighten up, enjoy and let your fans enjoy too

She had not performed in a while, right? Maybe she was nervous.

I'm beginning to agree with you.I love Lauryn, but I wonder if she is capable of handling fame? She seems to have alot of problems with being a celebrity.

She just performed at the VIBE Music Festival or something. Heard the performance was pretty good--revamped versions of a few tunes with the band but still erratic or unprofessional behavior on her part. In any other profession, people just get fired but musicians somehow hang on. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

True! How many of us could turn in 90 mins late for work, finish early and get asked for refunds from a load of our customers and STILL have a job to go to on Monday morning..?

Sometimes Lauryn can seem like the biggest narcissist on the face of the earth.

On the miseducation Lauryn sang:
Come on baby, light my fire Everything you drop is so tired Music is supposed to inspire How come we ain't getting no higher? Now tell me your philosophy On exactly what an artist should be Should they be someone with prosperity And no concept of reality? Now, who you know without any flaws That lives above the spiritual laws And does anything they feel just because There's always someone there who'll applaud Come on baby, light my fire Everything you drop is so tired Music is supposed to inspire How come we ain't getting no higher? I know you think that you've got it all And by making other people feel small Makes you think you're unable to fall And when you do, who you gonna call? See, what you give is just what you get I know it hasn't hit you yet Now I don't mean to get you upset But every cause has an effect Come on baby, light my fire Everything you drop is so tired Music is supposed to inspire So, how come we're not getting no higher? I cross sands in distant lands, made plans with the sheiks Why you beef with freaks as my album sales peak? All I wanted was to sell like 500 And be a ghetto superstar since my first album, Blunted I used to work at Foot Locker, they fired me and fronted Or I quitted, now I spit it - however do you want it? Now you get it! Writing rhymes my range with the frames slightly tinted Then send it to your block and have my full name cemented And if your rhymes sound like mine, I'm taking a percentage Unprecedented and still respected when it vintage I'm serious, I'm taking over areas in Aquarius Running red lights with my 10,000 chariots Just as Christ was a superstar, you stupid star They'll hail you then they'll nail you, no matter who you are They'll make you now then take you down And make you face it, if you slit the bag open and put your pinky in it, then taste it Come on baby, light my fire Everything you drop is so tired Music is supposed to inspire So, how come we ain't getting no higher The sad thing is, this is her now!

Funny, out of all the people who broke through in the mid-nineties, she is the last person I would have thought would turn into such a colossal asshole. She seemed to promise so much more than just a typical whingeing millionaire singer bleating on about her problems. [Edited 7/13/05 22:28pm] There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

And we're focussing all our energy on Whitney while her ass is trying to slip pass our radar. What The Fuck.
